Alright i figured id start a build thread and its named appropriately, due to the snow ball effect you all know so well. so this is about the third go around with mods, first was trial and error. second was 8.8, 4;88's, super 30, lockers, sye new tires and rims ect. heres a pic after i have it for a few months[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG], a poser pic on the trailer before i headed out east to maryland. [IMG][/IMG]after moving to md i met a real cool guy that works for the same company, a real hard core jeeper. he just finished the 8.8 with 4;88s lockers and same with the d30, wheeled it a few times then decided to do d60's. guess who bought all his old stuff? this guy and i got a steal too!! i swapped the axles, installed sye, with xj drive shaft ft and rear, new luk clutch kit and put her all back together pic the day it rolled out the garage lookin all sexy[IMG][/IMG], A month ago i cut out the rear cross member on the frame to weld in a 2x4x1/4 thick bumper and found frame rot. so the frame rot and the tub were really bad, u can see in pervious pics, so that started a frame off restoration. the tub was a complete mess of rust. frame was ok other than the rear sections, i welded in new auto rust peices, man they were great! well worth the money to me.[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]right now im kinda just moving slow. i found a local guy on craigs list that had a tub in great shape and i picked it up for 400 bucks [IMG][/IMG] ripped out all the 95' stuff converted it from auto to manual and reinstalled my 91 stuff. the tub needs minimal rust repair. will be easy as pie. also picked up a sbc 355, novak alluminum radiator, motor mount, headman headers from the same dude. all of it was in the jeep the tub was on. thats how it turned into the big lie, well im this far so ill go ahead and do this, well if im gonna do that i should do this.. lol and keeps going[IMG][/IMG]
i ordered the gas tank cross member from morris 4x4. that was the only place i could find it so that will be next on the list. im also looking for opinons about a trans. i want to use an ax15 but i haven't found any one thats done it that will respond to my pm's? i cut off the shock mounts and repaired the frame behind on both sides. also cut off the old motor mounts aswell to make room. also thinking obout stretching the rear a few inches with ruff stuff way back shackles and doing spring over in the rear with xj leafs till i upgrade the front axle to complete the soa.
today i raked the yard, shot some clays, and got the gas tank cross member from the fed ex guy and cut old the old and welded in the new. good day! also lined up a sand blaster to do the frame! heres some pics before [IMG][/IMG], i wish i woulda got pics before i painted it but heres the shiny black, after i cut out the old one [IMG][/IMG] and welded in [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]
yesterday i cut off the old trac bar mount from the frame, and was pleasantly surprised there was no rust behind. today tied up some loose ends welding up the rest of the gas tank cross member. hoping i get this ax15 for cheap. ill know in 1/2 hr
I just ordered the way back shackle hanger from ruff stuff as well as the leaf hanger to stretch the rear. Decided to switch to a rci 2161a fuel cell and recess it in the floor behind the seat. Thats gonna push back the sand blasing date
today i recieved my ebay ax15!! 200 bucks and mocked up my 150 dollar np231 23 spline with sye!! its all coming together.. slowly lol i cant believe no one has chimed in yet! wtf? i have alot of parts laying around. pm me with any questions[IMG][/IMG] if any one has a pic or a link to a 91 fire wall wiring block diagram that would kick a$$!!
so today i picked up an rci 30x9x12 fuel cell on craigslist for 90 bucks. put that in ur pipe and smoke it!. ill be building a cage out of angle iron and recessing it into the floor behind the rear seat. [IMG][/IMG]
