I purchased Bessie the Brown cow in 2001.
My previous 5.2L ZJ that was on a budget boost, 31's and rockerskids was stolen late one night at work.
Long story short, the idiots drove straight to a gas station, pulled a gas and go, got in a high speed pursuit with city police..... and got away.

1999 Sahara
Ax-15
Dana 35
and it came with 5 fresh 31x10.50 Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radials that I had already worn out by the time I snapped that picture.

It was meant to be after Eleanor got away.

After my first trip with the 33's to one of the most hardcore parks in WNC, The Flats, the Dana 35 decided enough was enough at 142k miles. I continued to drive it for 2 weeks back and forth to work, 36 miles round trip with a few missing spider gear teeth. Every time i accelerated in a turn, the rear would almost lock up.... I do not recommend!

So next mod was a Dana 44 I found on craigslist.

Bare housing with drum brakes out of a 2001 TJ.

Got lucky and found some used cromoly shafts and after begging every shop in town to press on some fresh bearings, I got it put together.

Yes I realize now how stupid i was to use concert blocks and crawl under it and beat around for hours. Not my wisest decision but i was desperate to get it back on the road.

Shortly after the 44 was in, I did a SYE eliminator with Adams driveshaft.

Somewhere about this time I did an Aussie Locker in the front. Best $250 I ever spent. Still to this day with 198K miles on the clock I've had no issues on or off road with it.

By this point, Bessie was getting dirty every weekend and I was wearing a suit to work every day. So I broke down and got a Camry to drive back and forth to work. I could focus on more important hardcore Jeep parts lol.

Next was
35" Kevlars
4.88s
Yukon Grizzly D44 locker
ZJ Disk brakes for the rear

Almost forgot the UCF skid that got hid underneath.

I'm going button up a few things for a while and reap the dividends Bessie has given.

She's been to Uwharrie, Flats, Gulches, Callalentee, Windrock (my favorite) and has brought me home in one piece every time. She hangs with some of the big buggies and puts one hell of a smile on my face everytime I still get behind her.

After 198k miles I have only replaced parts that are destined to wear out but still have the original clutch! And I learned how to drive a manual with this clutch!

Are one tons in my future.... I can't decide, she's so much fun right now.

Nice work man. The fact that you're wheeling the crap out of it is the best part! A lot of people spend the money, and talk about it but never actually wheel. Nice rig. Please share your wheeling photos also!

This was Trail 15 at Windrock. Such a fun place. I'm still getting photos from others.
