Bedwell's Jeep Sahara Build

Hello everyone my name is Dylan and I figured I would finally start a Jeep Forum build. I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler TJ Sahara Edition that I bought about 4 years ago. I have sunk thousands of dollars into it and have not made the best financial decisions with this Jeep. However you learn from your mistakes and move forward. I will post the most recent photo of the Jeep in first post here and will edit accordingly as time passes. I hope this thread serves as some inspiration and guide for some. Thank you for posting and watching the thread.

From the beginning. I will try and do the best I can to keep this in chronological order. I have always loved Jeeps since I was a small boy. We took a trip out West and we rented a stock Jeep TJ to just drive around on the dirt roads and go exploring. It was awesome. We even got to ride in one of the first 4D Jeep TJs. (custom) Years later as I am starting to get prepared to obtain my drivers license I spot a lifted black yj. I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I never got to check it out as I went to camp. However my step-dad did and said it was in bad shape and a bunch of other things. What they didnt tell me is they found a newer Jeep in the area and we went to check it out. It was a 99 Jeep Sahara TJ with the 4.0 and automatic transmission. I was instantly hooked and we decided to buy it for close to $10,000.

Here are some of the stock photos that I could find:

I figured I would finally give this thread an update. Plan to do weekly installments so it gives time for users to comment and ask questions.

This first round lift was around Spring of 2009 IIRC. Saved forever and did not do any research, purchased the lift kit off of ebay. It was a 4" RC lift with 33x12.50x15 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws. Also purchased a Daystar 1" BL as well. Had a local shop (Appalachian Offroad) install it. A few hundred dollars for an install and had my first Jeep lifted. Was so excited but would eventually learn the consequences of no research and poor quality. (I would never recommend Rough Country after my experience.) Also forgot to mention I purchased knock off Bushwhacker fender flares that we installed so I would not have any trouble with the local law enforcement.

The photos below are what it looked liked first lifted.

Here are some old wheeling photos, this is not long after I got it lifted. I installed a Halltrail Engine Skid (local club) and a CB Radio setup from Walmart and Radio Shack. June of 2009.

As promised, here are some old photos of upgrading the jeep.

This was a custom made tire carrier that I purchased for around $150 dollars at the PA Jeep Show in 2010 IIRC. This has since been removed and was a giant headache. Also an old picture of the original softop that was 10+ years old. Was eventually replaced as a Christmas gift due to being in such terrible condition.

Poison Spyder Stinger. Has since been sold and installed on a yj.

I had done a couple of "upgrades" at this point. Installed a set of Halltrail Rocker Guards (local club), trimmed the knock off bushwhacker fender flares, removed the carpet and backseat.

As I already stated, this bumper was a gaint POS. I still have it in my garage after it was rebuilt. It was removed this year. More on that later.

If you didnt already tell in the prior pictures, the front right fender had rotted out. My guess is a battery leak, it was hidden with the original stock flares.

A photo of my 99 Jeep TJ and my 84 CJ7 Renegade. I only had that for a short time and sold it to purchase a car. I still regret the sale but it went to a good home and is under the knife for a frame up restoration that will eventually go to the Virgin Islands. The xj was a high school friend.

Next round of old photos:

Here is where we decided to go ahead and bedline the interior tub. I used Monstaliner bedliner and chassis saver. I was having some rust issues in the front driver and passenger floorboards. After a couple of years it is still holding up well. (Scratched up but ok.)

Bored so I will go ahead and update the thread again:

This was the end of a stage, per say. I had upgraded a good bit at this point. I installed a Smittybilt 10k Winch and plate, Eagle Eye Offroad Lights, Poison Spyder half corners and lights, rebuilt the rear bumper with an AtoZ Fabrication kit and patched the front fender. This is fall of 2010 and a photo from work with some maryland snow.
