HERE I COME LIFT!!!!

Yesterday I started looking up shocks for the bastard pack lift I'm going to do. Im trying to keep the lift on a low budget and the guys at autozone will let me swap the shocks I have now that I bought from them 5 months ago for some longer truck shocks. So I did a couple hours of research and found this...

Based on this web site http://www.monroe.com/assets/downloa...engthSheet.pdf
I have found that 1997 ford f150 rear shocks for the front on the yj are just about perfect and mounting is almost exactly the same, but ill be using Gabiral shocks so the lengths very a little from the monroes. I especially like the fact that the f150 shock has 12.03 inches of travel!

YJ stock specs: Compressed 14.5 in
Extended 24.375 in
Travel 9.8 in

(Gabriel Pro Guard Shocks)
97 F150 specs: Compressed 16.3 in
Extended 28.3 in
Travel 12.03 in

Here is what I found for the rear. 1974 ford F250 shocks will mount up perfectly and have the exact lengths I want as well.

YJ stock specs: Compressed 11.8 in
Extended 18.3 in
Travel 6.5 in

(Gabriel Guardian Shocks)
74 F250 specs: Compressed 13.8 in
Extended 23.2 in
Travel 9.3 in

I went and got the 97 f150 shocks today, fit perfectly! I have to wait untill tomorrow or monday to get the 74 f250 shocks because they were special order. I also found out today that I will be making money by switching to truck shocks!!! ha All 4 of the yj shocks cost 24.99 and the f250 shocks only cost 16.99 so ill get like 16 bucks back! cant beat that.

here is a picture of the shocks compressed and extended. The compressed one can go down about 2 more inches its held down by the retainer strap.

I will have the shocks under her with stock leafs for a week or two untill I do the bastard packs. After I get the back shocks in Ill dedicate a thread to this truck shock swap because it would have saved me about 5 hours if there had been one already.

Great read! I too had a rusty YJ. Bought it for my (high school) senior project to learn how to weld... got in over my head and ended up losing (a lot of) money selling it, but had a blast welding!

Keep up the good work

I will be buying the s10 leafs on friday and ill spend the weekend doing the bastard pack. Im kind of nervous about the lift though. I don't want it to be too high where my drive shaft is too short but i will be doing a TC drop at the same time so i guess we'll just have to wait and see how it goes.

How do the shocks ride? I would be afraid they'd be a little too stiff?

they ride perfect, exactly the same as the stock ones. Just because they are off a big truck doesn't mean they are any stiffer.

Awesome! I was just thinking the Weight difference between them would make a difference in the shocks. Good find though haha!

i thought about that for a minute too but then i realized the shocks just keep it from bouncing up and down really fast, the springs are what hold the wight. If i put f250 leafs under it shed be stiffer then a rock.

I was thinking the same thing but I think I want to do the entire thing with bed liner. That fiber glass is scratching and chipping right and left.
