Got my ball joints (driver's side) replaced today. Interestingly enough, they were apparently the source of my shimmy around 60 MPH, as that issue seems to be gone up to 80 MPH (not going faster than that, ever). The upper was tight, but the lower was movable by hand with no effort. All in all, a lot easier than expected.
For those of you that want to do such a project yourselves, I recommend looking at all three of of these videos from youtube and view stuoffroad.com's writeup. If you're creative (like the youtube guy) the AutoZone/Oreilly's press works fine. FYI, I didn't need the flat metal piece lie the youtube guy. . . . the parts in the kit worked fine for my axle.
Looks like a fair price for what it is, but first you should try pricing a V8 ZJ tie rod at your local auto parts store. Stu-offroad has a good write-up about the ZJ tie rod. Most people on here would just tell you to get the ZJ tie rod, but if the price is better on the IRO I say go for it.
Thanks a lot! I'm happy with how it flexes out now, and it rides SO much better.
3 weeks isn't long till I get to test it out Say, what did mod did that extra cash from the arms buy?
Still holding on to it actually. I'm about to start building another TJ as a daily driver so it will probably go towards that. Since I'm on Spring break next week I'm going to try and get it built pretty quick. Expect to see a build thread in the next couple days. If I'm dilligent you might even see it at URE in 3 weeks!
