From the Ashes ZJ build

Wanted to call this build "the Phoenix" but I realized that the name was to majestic and cool for this ZJ. Despite this Jeep being far from perfect she's my first and needless to say I have big plans for her! Hope people enjoy what they see and give me some help along the way

Reasoning behind the build name:

Here she is about a year and half old with barely 5k miles on her

Interested to see where this goes. That damage looks bad.

Lucky for me my father worked in a body shop at the time and did a lot of side work. He bought this gem fixed her up and ended up driving it for a little while.

When fixing it he managed to pull the frame rails dead perfect at 0. The Jeep ended up being my mom's DD for as long as I can remember and occasional tow rig for the boat or horse trailer. Then finally it came time for me to drive and I got the Jeep as a hand-me-down (mostly due to the fact that I was dead set on getting it). My mom being a Jeep lover was a little reluctant of letting it go so we upgraded her to a hemi WK. That's when the good ol' ZJ became mine.

my mom's WK, my friends WJ, and my ZJ

While doing some work on a buddy's lifted chevy C20 we pulled of the tires and mocked them up. I fell in love

after saving up every dollar I had (was a high school student) and convincing my folks that it's was more cost-efficient to buy a lift kit that replace the factory suspension which was shot I picked up a reasonably priced 4" lift from tal.4x4. Found this quote and thought it was pretty funny

After searching the interwebs and craigslist I found a set of 31" tires (w/ a full size spare cause of the d*** NP249 : ) listed for 600 after some bs-ing and some haggling, I ended up buying 4 procomp mt's, 1 hankook dynapro mt, 5 jeep steelies, and a 235/75/15 firestone tire for 400!!

First wheeling trip wasn't too bad, but I learned about one of the downsides to having a post 96 factory v8 ZJ- CV joint front style front driveshafts
