Another 5.2L YJ thread

Here we goo! Fooled around one more time last night with my Jeep as is:

Even left the ground once (or 5 times):

I think I will name this project after the great Emmett 'Doc' Brown's famous words.

"Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads!"

Here's the plans:

-Magnum 5.2L V8
-AX15 5 speed Transmission
-NP231J Transfercase with SYE
-Dana 44 front axle, locked
-Ford 8.8 rear axle, locked (suggestions on lockers?)
-OBA system
-Metalcloak Overline fenders with 6" flare
-Metalcloak rock sliders
-Some front bumper (have yet to decide)
-Rear bumper with swingout tire carrier
-Drop down tailgate
-Winch
-35" tires, Jeep chrome wheels
-4" suspension lift/1" boomerang shackles
-Monstalined tub (inside and out)
-Family rollbar conversion
-New soft top, and a hard top
-Audio system (we will figure this one out when we get there)
-LED headlights, tail lights, reverse lights, turn signals, marker lights, dash lights, dome lights
-Baja Designs 51" OnX LED light bar
-Baja Designs Squadron LED Driving lights
-Baja Designs Squadron LED Spot lights
-SuperBrightLED's Mini 10 and 20w LED lamps behind, in front, and underneath

Uhh I think that's it for now... Still trying to locate a Jeep Grand Cherokee with said V8. Hoping for one with OBD2..

Still bummed every bolt of the way though...

Today I started by washing off as much mud as I could, then took the hood off and am working on removing the grill. Stupid broken nutserts :brickwall

Bear with me. I'm a bit slow with things, especially since this is my pride and joy..

Got a bit farther.

Almost the same plans as my build, but I went SOA :p

Xpress 04-03-2013 03:55 PM

We're staying SUA with this one. I don't want to go overboard just yet :shhh:

I have also got a bearing on my Jeep:

(I don't know who's Jeep this is, hope you don't mind if I use it to mock mine up)

It's going to be Light Quartz Gray and Predator Green, both from Monstaliner of course. The Grill insert and Wheels will be Chrome, that's it for the shiny stuff.

Even though I'm not finished with my V8 build, I can tell you the clearance with the front driveshaft and the starter is tight, not enough that a SOA is required, but I think it depends on how hard you're going to wheel it. I've got a 2.5" OME lift and it still is tight.

Xpress 04-03-2013 04:19 PM

We are going up 4" on springs, possibly more with boomerang shackles. I will attempt to cross the bridge when I get to that point, but I think 4" is going to clear just fine.

czjeeper 04-03-2013 04:35 PM

Your build is almost identical to mine.
Driveshaft clearance is tight up front with SUA but I don't hit. Bds springs and m.o.r.e. shackles, and extended bump stops.

Xpress 04-03-2013 04:38 PM

I was hoping to wind up with nearly 5" of lift. Worst case scenario is I just ditch the starter and bump it each time

(kidding of course)

If you aren't hitting with your lift then I don't see why it would hit with a bit more lift.

czjeeper, got a build thread?

Xpress 04-03-2013 07:03 PM

Got the passenger side fender off and am working on removing the wiring harness. Should have tried to steam clean it prior, this thing is MESSY

Should have the harness out tomorrow, maybe get the engine out by the end of next week.

Xpress 04-05-2013 04:11 PM

Yesterday I got just about all of the interior out of it:

Today is just going to be working on getting everything organized and start listing stuff up for sale that I don't need.

I see you live in the peoples republic of califorina like me. :) How do you plan on dealing with smog testing? Also why would want a obd2 doner? Seems like it would be easier with a obd1 set up. I have contemplated a similar swap.

joeyk803c 04-05-2013 11:01 PM

Easier to diagnose things down the road I suppose.

Once the engine is in, I'll be taking it to a smog referee to legalize the swap, that way I will not have issue with smog testing down the road.

OBD2 to make diagnostics easier as well as open up more aftermarket components for the computer if I ever decide to go that way.

SunDevilJeeper 04-06-2013 07:26 AM

Welcome to the club mighty Xpress, let's hope your swap doesn't take as long as mine.

Xpress 04-06-2013 07:49 AM

Probably be a while, unless I can get a lot of these parts sold..
