Amber Fire XJ Rejuvenation Project

This is my long term project for my XJ that by no means will be done quickly (unfortunately )

Specs as they stand now:

Stone White Color
Black accents
3" Rusty's lift
31" General Grabber AT2's
5 Speed Tranny
4.0L
K&N Filter
Borla Exhaust
2 Hella 500 lamps
Brush Guard
Custom made Roof Rack by me
Cragar Soft 8's with 4" backspacing

The plan is to take my white '98 xj, and first paint it Amber Fire orange, a rare color only found on 01 xj's and some tj's. I have always liked this color and after examining my jeep and seeing very small rust specs forming all over the entire body i decided i should paint it before winter comes back around.

On top of this i obviously cannot just leave my 3" lift and 31" tires. I am planning on upgrading to a 4.5" lift with 32" tires.

So the plan for this project of mine is:

Paint XJ Amber Fire
Black accents on the wheel wells and trim
Matching amber fire differential covers
2" lift spacers up front
1.75" lift shackles in back
Lower control arm upgrade
SYE
32x11.5x15 tires (unsure on which ones yet...suggestions?)
Dynamat and Herculiner on floor of xj
Undercoating
New custom roof rack - Rola roof basket with 4 130W off road lights
Sandblast and re-paint front brush guard

Thats the plan, def paint will be first and foremost, and the others will come as i can afford them. i have never painted a vehicle before, but i have help from my grandfather who has painted many many cars and a few of my friends who took paint and body classes. suggestions, tips or tricks are definitely welcome! It will be a learning experience as well as a great project. i am looking forward to starting this as soon as i can afford it!

Here's my jeep as it stands...

This is the color I am going for...

i believe this plan is going to come through in about a year when i graduate from wyotech. for now my jeep just needs to get me through 12 months, but as soon as i'm out and have a better job i will be taking this project on full-speed. and even upgrading to 33's

Well I have gotten started on this slow build of mine. Have 4 months left of school and hope to have it painted while im taking my refinishing classes. But here is a start of what I was able to do with some live hours in class this week. Took a dent out of my door and rocker that has been there since I purchased the jeep.

I have also taken the side-cladding off as well. I believe it gives the jeep a much cleaner look.

Was under the jeep putting new sway bar bushings on the front when my buddy found a crack in my factory exhaust manifold. I guess after 189,000 miles it just plain had enough! So I scored a smoking deal on a rugged ridge performance header for 170.00. Will be installing it over Christmas break when it is delivered. Also putting a magnaflow high flow cat in to compliment my Borla muffler behind it.

some more progress today. All old paint scuffed and body work 75% complete. Passenger side rear window rust is fixed. Tomorrow is cutting out rust holes and making patch panels. Hopefully if all goes well masking for primer will happen as well.

also scored some spare parts today for free! 99 XJ grille and rear bumper. Good for spare parts just in case or the 97-01 front clip swap for my Comanche.
