ajamison's YJ crawler project

Well, this is my 6th Jeep believe it or not! Just picked it up over the weekend. My plan here is to build a (PA street legal) 1 ton crawler. To keep it legal in PA I'm going to get the 1 ton axles narrowed down to close to stock width. I'm going to make some tube fenders, and run 37"+ tires. SOA suspension and remove the body lift.

Here's the scoop on the YJ..
- 4.7L stroker with ~25k miles on it
- 280K on the body
- AX-15 trans
- 231 transfer case with no SYE
- Stock axles and gears
- 4" Rough Country Lift (add-a-leaf and shackles?)
- 2" Body lift
- Nearly new 35" MT/R w/ Kevlar

Im going to wheel it this fall a few times at Rausch Creek Offroad Park, then some time around the beginning of November its going to go under the knife. The plan is to have it finished back on the trails by spring.

whoever installed the lift on this thing shimmed it for a SYE... its eating u-joints

i bought new shims of a lesser degree today to fix the problem.

and i put the fastback top from my old TJ on the YJ.. who said they wouldnt fit? its not perfect but it works!

i have thurs and fri off from work cause my company is slow... so that gives me a lot of time with nothing to do.. i think im going to try to hunt down some 60's and some other things for the jeep like back seat brackets

What size rubber you thinking of?

Can't wait to see it progress. Looks like they setup the drive shaft for CV joint.

What is the law in PA for "street legal"?

Yeah it was set up for cv, I just put in 4 degree shims and its still too much angle. When I said street legal I meant that the tires can't be out past the flares.. And technically the flares can't be wider than 3". Nobody usually bothers you about the flares though, as long as the tires are covered
