Awsome truck... How did the rustoleum rubberized undercoating come out? I was thinking about using it on the xj, but i have gotten drastically mixed opinions on it.

Nice MJ to start with. I'm sure that it will look amazing.

Subscribed. This must be the month for great MJ builds.

Thanks! It still has a long way to go, but I'm taking it one step at time. Regarding the undercoating, It coats very well but I could never get it to fully dry/cure, so I sprayed regular black spray paint over the top of it and it really worked well. It sealed out the undercoating to the touch so that it doesn't just scratch off with your finger nail. So in answer to your questions, yes, I'm happy with it now, but it is a 2 step process if you want the final product to be sealed.

Thanks...I am just as excited if not more excited about the interior as any part of the truck. I have some good surprises in store for the interior

As promised a few pics of progress on tearing down the 99' XJ and collecting parts.

But first I found a few more of the truck prior to going to the body shop.

Phase one of the swap, tear down interior and dash removal. Surprisingly the dash on the 99' comes out as a complete unit relatively easy with wiring intact. Behind the dash is a sub frame on the driver's side and HVAC system on the passenger side. Both are still mounted to the firewall in the pics below in the 99'. This sub frame and the HVAC system will have to be transferred to the MJ first, then the dash, and finally the plastic asthetic pieces.

Main dash assembly

I plan to use the XJ seats and brackets in the MJ cab so I drilled out all the spot welds and ground the few welds off the XJ's seat brackets. I plan to transfer these to the MJ cab and weld them in. Once in place these should make the XJ seat install a breeze.

As stated above I've been collecting parts when I see deals, so I have a little of this and little of that. So far I've managed to stock pile the following:

4.88 Alloy USA gears and rebuild kits for the HP30/Dana35(I know, I know, I should not keep the 35 but there will be more to come on it later). Also got a deal on a 30 spline ARB and 30 spline Alloy shafts for the Dana 35.

I was able to pick up an entire 231 from a 97 XJ with a brand new PORC SYE installed for not much more than an SYE kit.

I plan to focus on the interior first when I get the truck back from the body shop so I've mainly been collecting parts for it.

New carpet kit - Graphite(99' XJ oem color) with the thicker backing for more sound deading. Over look the bed, the wife really appreciates my carpet covering the extra bed The tinted windows go back in the truck as well from the 97+ doors.

I'm excited to add a good audio system to the truck so I've been trying to plan it all out. So far I've collected the following but still need to decide on a head unit and sub set up.

MTX 5.25s, 4x6s, crossovers, tweeters, and an MTX Amp(not pictured)

MTX Tweeters installed in door panels(for the keen eye notice the switch panel change from a 4 door to 2 door panel )

Again, thanks for looking and the compliments. I think that's it for now. Stay tuned for more.......

Wow. Probably my favorite MJ build I've seen on JF and it is just starting, I see this turning out really well.

Still looking great. You should look into getting the transmission shift handle out of a ZJ. It pushes right on with a little persuasion and is much nicer than the original handle. Will help complete the updating of your MJ.

That's a great idea on shift handle. I'm sure I can find one at the local pull a part.
