Your Jeep has really come a long way. Thing is b@d@$$! Locked f/r - awesome! Really cool to come back to your thread and see all the progress you've made.

BTW - the Guard Dogs, get them. I know of a couple guys that run them and they have no complaints. In fact, Treadwright has there own tire now, isn't even a retread. Even at than, the retreads they made/make are legit.

Thank you Mike, it's great to hear from you. I'm set on ordering the 285/75/16's Guard Dogs tonight, just trying to decide on rims. The new design you speak of is the B2B (bead to bead), Treadwright says
"during the process for the bead to bead remolds, we buff not only the old tread, but also the casing sidewall. This allows us to apply a new branded veneer that is much more resistant to ozone and weather cracking."
I promised myself once I get the 33's I'm done looking at tires for a while. From stock to 235's, then the 31's, now the 33's in one year.

Once they arrive I will have to hit the trails. Pics to come

JCR steering box spacer has been painted and installed-

These showed up too-

Pretty impressed with 3 day shipping! Rims should be here mid week, still waiting on the brown dog engine mounts... Stay tuned.

im not sure about kansas but in Memphis where I used to live the local u-pull-it's had a million xj's and almost every 4wd one was sporting 3.55's...usually if you tell the local junkyard cashier you dont want a "warrantee" they will knock off bucks...however I was installing most of the used xj stuff on an offroad only rig, and I was going to modify it so that's whey I never asked for warrantee...anywho just thought id swing by and say hi...lol...how much were the tires btw? I really want something decent for my lil dj I can get a set of goodyear wranglers for 328$ but that's only a 235/75/r15...I really want some 31's tho

Look at te treadwrights you'll save a **** ton of money

And griffin what you up to today? You should come out.

Freak, I have a couple junkyards near me that typically have a handful of xj's. When I first bought my Cherokee I saw a waggy xj in the yard, with the d44, but didn't need it at the time... In the next week or two Il check the yards again, as long as the gears are clean a $100 master rebuild kit isn't a problem. This would be the cheaper route rather than buying r/p gears front and back, a new front carrier (if I went over 373's), and master rebuild kits (bearings and seals). This is my daily driver however if it has to sit for a few days to get some work done it doesn't matter. I'l see if I can get them cheaper without a warranty, if I could get a complete d30 and c8.25 in good shape for $200 it would be worth it.

If you can, get a high pinion D30 and 29 spline 8.25..........

Honestly, if you're looking to swap axles with new gears - go all out with the new axles. Gear them 4.56 or 4.88. You'll only do it once. 3.55s are okay but the deeper the better and IMO the aggressiveness of your build lends itself to at least 4.56 gearing.

Thanks for your input Mike, I wouldn't settle for anything less than a hp30 or the 29 spline rear. Even if the gear ratio was what I wanted, I wouldn't purchase inferior axles. Even though the price of a pair of 3.55 geared xj axles is appealing it may not be worth the effort swapping them, like you said. Once I get these tires on I will see what 33's and 3.07s feel like, if bearable, I may start saving towards a legitimate regear instead of the cheaper complete axle swap.

I removed the back half of the interior today in order to remove the carpet, didn't pull the front seats out yet. Been having fun with the insulation on the cargo area floor and also under the rear bench seat. A blow torch and a putty knife seems to help. I have wanted to remove the carpet for 3 reasons; so I don't have to worry about the carpet getting moldy and/or moisture rotting my floors, the PO had a dog and there is hair everywhere (helps being allergic), lastly I am going to drill a few holes in the floor to gain access to the inside of the unibody frame rail. This way I can slide a homemade nutstrip inside the rail to secure my rock rails instead of self tapping bolts. I ordered YJ floor plugs to fill the holes I drill and I have a 1 gallon herculiner kit sitting here. Staying busy!
