97 tj college build

First Jeep, I previously had two cars, ended up selling my last VW after owning it for a year so I can finally buy me a wrangler considering i've always wanted one. I never thought I would do the stuff I do to it, or spend as much money as I do. BUT, i got addicted. Here it is, 4 cylinder pretty much bone stock jeep except the tires and fog lights. $4500 bucks and it was all mine. Guy only drove it in the winter, never saw mud, had new break lines, 03-06 mirrors, sony head unit, new dash speakers, and an almost new softtop. 97,000 miles.

I'm on a college budget but I'm still able to do some cool mods. Just a progress build

latest photo plus a few stock photos

Got some cheap tires off CL. 150 bucks for 4 31" green arizona iceland MTs. Pretty cool, front two had a lot less tread then the back but i bought them knowing I was going to buy different ones this time of year. Much better then the stock tires. Also got a rear bumper.

The day after my birthday an old lady cut in front of me, I t-boned her, ended up being my fault somehow? Bought a fender for 100 on CL and its in my garage, just didn't want to put it on during the winter, should go on in the next few weeks. I did immediately replaced my light and bumper though.

Put in a 2" skyjacker spacer lift, got some new shocks. Took some springs out of a friends 2004 stock tj so it gave it another 1/2 inch or so. Also got the surface rust off the frame and painted that.

Painted my differential covers, new stabilizer, and tinted my own windows with some static cling. Took awhile and some patience but worth it.

Just some cool winter shots. Took the rig to NC for spring break last week. Put my stock tires back on tho to save my tread and some gas mileage.

Took the spare tire carrier off today considering I don't have a right size spare. Also got my skyjacker 4" lift in today

Future mods:

Getting my door and side fixed (if you didn't notice the dent, someone t-boned me in a parking lot, waiting for the insurance claim now, they should pay for it)
Looking for tires, 33's
Some rock sliders
a winch

I like the red and black theme and my dash was grey so I went and painted it. I took off the parts of that dash that came off easily and taped off the rest. I used rustoleam vinyl paint but I have no ideal how it is going to hold up. No before pics, but there are the afters.

Finally got the lift in. ran into a few problems with getting the cam bolts out but other than that, a whole day and some hard work got it done. I did go with skyjacker, i know a lot of people are not fans. I am not made of money and skyjacker had an affordable 4" suspension kit for 625 shipped to my door. I have been driving it for 5 days now, and I don't mind it. It's a little rough but after all I sold my car for a reason, I wanted a JEEP. I know RC has lift kits for that much too but I didn't want a combo kit, i wanted nothing to do with body lifts, I wanted all suspension. I still have my 31's and honestly it doesn't look that bad in person, but I am looking for some bigger ones and i want to regear my jeep considering its only a four cylinder
