Tj97 TJ Build Thread

Bought a TJ this morning. It needs some help, but I think I'm up for the challenge. I've got plenty of people willing to help that have just about all of the skills I could ever need.

The Jeep, as it was when I bought it

Engine - needs to be cleaned, but pretty good overall.

I'll keep this thread updated with pictures as I take on tasks, even if they're small. Tonight/tomorrow's task is getting the brake lights to work. Next weeks task is registration and license plates, then it's off to the mud to see how it performs before I alter it.

Some mods on the horizon:

Wheels/Tires/Lift:
3-4" suspension lift
1" body lift
33" or 35" tires

Armor:
Custom front and rear bumpers
Custom rock sliders

Recovery:
Winch
Misc. recovery points (d-rings)

Electrical:
CB radio

Other Goodies:
Custom snorkel
Windshield light bar (GDTIME and I are building 3 of them - 2 for us and a third for a friend who isn't on Jeep Forum - yet.)
Aux reverse lights
Rock lights
Fog lights

I've only posted a few times, I can't use [IMG] tags yet.

I know there were a lot of images. Didn't want to do that, but I had to start somewhere. lol

Can't wait to see how it goes, I've got the same jeep and color but mine was in better shape when I got it. Looks like a great project.

So I've figured out part of the problem with the tail/brake lights. Bad ground due to rust and somewhat loose tail light guards. I have a feeling there might be some more wiring problems as well, but right now I'm home from college. Tomorrow I'm going back armed with some more tools to tackle the ground situation and go from there.

Funny you should say that, previous owner had it specifically for towing a boat. It's high mileage, 188k, but I only paid 3500 for it. It's better than it seems, I've just highlighted the bad points because that's what I'm going to be working on.

One more bad point I recently found and forgot to mention was that 2 of my tires are going flat. Good thing they were all worn and needed to be replaced soon anyway.

He had to have thought washing or cleaning of any sort was for losers. This thing is pretty dirty. In a way I'm happy though, because it means that when it's nice there's going to be a huge difference and I can say that I made it. And we're in New England, in the winter the whole place is a salt pit! lol
