95 YJ frame off restoration

I have been on here before and i had a build thread for my cherokee. im 17 and yes i have 2 jeeps. i had to work hard turning a 20 gallon fish tank into my 2001 jeep xj sport. i did that last october i think. i will add a picture of it later. it was a little slower of a build then i thought but it ended ok. so now on to the yj. it is a 1995 with the 2.5L 4 banger, and the ax-5 5 speed, and the 231 transcase. probly dana 30 and 35 but havent looked yet. i bought it and traded for it. i had a golf cart that was lifted 4 inches and was theamed like the general lee from the dukes of hazzard. i had about $1200 into it. so i traded that and paid $700 for the jeep. the golf cart was doing nothing for me so it was like i just bought a yj for $700 . when i bought it i was told it needed a clutch and 3rd gear was grinding. this meant nothing to me seeing as i was getting a wrangler. it came with a grey soft top with all the windows and both zip front windows and hard sliders as well as a condom cover. and had a plus to it. the fenders were all rusted out as well as a couple spots on the body. it came with a brand new fender in the box. the pictures are when i got it home.

ok the first pictures are when i got the yj home and last is my xj after i lifted it and put 31s on it. well the d window rims are my favorite rims that i have and my dad cooked the head on my sisters car so i made an agreement that my sister could take the xj and make it her dd if i got the yj. so the first thing i did is change the tires. the one rim on the back of the yj was a b!tch to get off. i snapped 2 fing lug nut in half. when i say that i mean i broke the little tin cap on them off and snpped the acorn off the lug. so after a night of drilling and pulling the rim was done and off. i will post a picture of it. now the rim is garbege but is off. i finished the switch and changed the tire over to a spare we had laying around. saao after that i drove it for awhile and was double clutching 3rd and it wouldnt grind that way. i have been running without doors or a top pretty much from the time i bought it. the second thing i did was rip the carpet out because it looked like the carpet for a house. it was all fluffy and nasty looking. i riped it out and used undercoating for the floor. it hasnt held up as good as i thought but it looks ok. the next thing was putting that new fender on. when i was tighting it up (i was using air rattchet) it pulled when it was tight and busted my finger on that new edge of the fender and split my finger right in half all the way up my nail and was deep to. but i finished that up and now time for pictures : D

sorry about the huge pictures but next thing was my buddy was hosting an annual redneck Olympics. has a mud pit an of coarse i had to take the jeeps. there was a lot of jeeps there and started looking like a jeep jamboree.my yj did good but had a bad coil wire or something so when i went throght twice it was skipping like a bastard. but i keept it above 5 thousand rpms. i did get stuck once and that was because it was skipping (have to have an excuse ). but it was a mess more or less a ton of fun. pictures are now

ok so now it was my birthday august 10th and i found a tranny and transcase on craigslist for $200. i called and offered $100 and he said ya come get them. so after i got the tranny i went and bought the raido took a crap so i bought a radio and a 12 icn woofer and an amp for $40. put my radio in and havent touched the rest of it. we just put the tranny in on the 27th and every thing went good. o forgot to mention my uncle had purchased a $180 clutch pack for the jeep for my birthday and we put that in while we were in there. the problem im running into now is that it is stuck in 4wd and wont come out. it shifts into 2wd but still turning front drivshaft. i have been driving for awhile like that but tonight after work im going to look at the front acuator in the front axle. the pictures are of today how she looks. im working on body work and think about a color to paint it before it gets cold. got to fix the drivers floor as well

so i have found the problem with the 4wd. i think it is the linkege because it dosent feel like it goes all the way back down to 2wd just stays in the middle of the 2.

update today is that it is not the linkege. i took the front driveshaft off and backed it up and never spun so i now know it is the front differntal acuator. i went to move the vacume line and it crumbled. so now time to look for one of those. i also got an estimite for paint and it was close to $500 just for metirials. so im going to do a $100 ratle can job on it and see how it comes out. it is a jeep. also got a peice welded into the side where the hole was cut out at. dont look great but it will hold.

Well I fugured I would update this theead even though no one looks at it. Now I have painted the whole jeep in primer and have had multiple problems. The clutch feels funny so I have to try to fix that, as well and the paint and just found a brocken rear trac bar, plus this 60 bucks a week in gas is killing me. Soo with that said I'm buying a 98 eclipse for a winter beater and I'm going to do a frame off restore. This way I can do all the body work and paint it the right way as well as fix ever thing. While I have it apart I'm thinking on the 4.0l swap. Any imput is welcome. I also am running the soft top and selling the hard top due to the fact I can't find doors. I will try to keep updating this when I do start the rebuild

going on a different path with the jeep. my cousin hasnt come through with the title yet so im just driving it now, i sold the hard top for 250 and was looking into a 97 5 speed cherokee with a 4.0l for 500. she is waiting for the title to come in and then sell it to me. as far as the yj. im going for an over all running 35's on dana 44's and a chevy 350 motor. there is a waggy with 44s down in the bone yard that im debating pulling the axles. i have a 350 just have to rebuild it and buy a carb for it. the only thing that is stoping me is the cash flow. im going 3 more inches in the suspention and 1 1/4 body. i hope to have it on the road with most of the major things done by the time it gets warm next year. i will get a couple pictures of how it sits now and if i buy a kit for the 350 i will post pics of the rebuild.

so yesterday i got rear ended in the yj. it wasnt that bad but it bent my tail gate and my bumperettes or what ever they call them. the guy didnt want to deal with insurnce so i took $100 and drove away, now i know after talking to my dad that it was the wrong thing to do but its to late to cry over spilt milk. i will post pictures of that and the jeep later today after work. the yj looked ok but the guys chevy was screwed. he blow a brake line when he hit me and crumpled the hood and broke the grill. thank god wranglers are so durable

today was a pretty productive day i think, i got home from work and spent about 4 hours straight on the jeep, i got the fenders grill and started figuring out the wiring for the truck. me and my dad where looking at it and trying to fiugre out some of the jery riged wires coming through the fire wall and that go no where. im going to eliminate them and have the basics. tomorrow im going to takle the inside of the tub like the dash, seats, and wiring that needs to come out. also going to ditch the a/c while im at it. as far as the power plant. im kinda leaning on the 350 swap next winter, the resons are because im going to get a lift with replacement leafs instead of leaf packs because i think mine are sagging pretty hard, also the $$ flow is not really flowing, get about 100 bucks a week and 40 goes to gas and i own about 1100 to my mom for the grand am and the rest for my cherokee head swap and ball joints. now some pictures.
