Before I got too far into this, I wanted to start a build thread to show and keep track of when/what I do to my Cherokee. So... here goes:
I picked up the jeep 9/16/08 in a trade for my YJ. My YJ was a 1991 2.5L 5-speed, 4" RC, 32" TSL's, other extras yada yada.
So I traded that for this 93 XJ w/ 145k milesI6, AW4, NP231 Transfer Case, factory limited slip, 3.55 gears, Tilt,Factory gauges (no idiot lights) Cd, Cold Air, Cruise control, Upcountry suspension, factory skid plates, antilock brakes, rear window defroster, rear window washer, Husky floor mats front and rear, trailer hitch,Tires have less than 10k miles on them, New brakes rotors and brake pads on the front, new plugs.
Best of all, I got to keep my TSL's, and a ARB bumper was thrown in that I was able to sell since it was for a Discovery.
Enough background... here it is as the listing pictured it:
I had to get the spare and hilift out of the back, so I got a Yakima Load Warrior, and made some mounts for them:
Then got a CB/PA and installed it. Went with a Cobra, and a fender mount.
After that, and after selling the bumper, I bought a 3.5" RE SuperFlex Kit and had it installed. I would have saved a buck and installed it myself, but I don't have access to a shop where I could leave it in pieces if need be. At any rate, here it is on the 32's I got to keep:
My latest project was to build a custom rear storage space for tools, recovery gear, etc. And this is what I came up with:
Sorry for the lack of detail... if you want detailed writeups just ask.
For Christmas, I got 4.56 gears w/ install kits, TheSource air tank, Aussie locker for the front, Nates4x4 front bumper, JCR rock sliders, Yakima Rack Extension, and an SYE. I've got the gears, locker, and air tank. Waiting on the rest to get here.
I'm planning on going to Morris Mountain with GATR Jan. 16-18, so #1 and #2 are things that I need to get done before then. The rest pretty much depend on time available and timeliness of delivery of the parts.
Over the weekend, I got the windows re-tinted. The previous-owner-tint was bubbled and ridged so bad you could hardly see out of it. I ended up going with 10% on the rear windows and keeping it legal with ~30% on the doors.
Also, I trimmed the fenders front and rear. I went with the cut-n-fold- method on the rears and just cut the fronts.
Took the cherokee on to the trail for the first time this weekend. Went out to Morris Mountain with GATR friday/saturday. It was freezing--but a lot of fun. The jeep did alright, but the trip really reinforced the realization of the need for a locker, winch, and sliders.
My Nates4x4 bumper was ordered on Dec. 12, in hopes to be here by Christmas, but it just arrived last week. At any rate, while I was home this past weekend, I painted it and installed it on the jeep. I still need to do a little cutting, but its on.
It looks a little naked without a winch or lights, but those should be coming up soon
