I have mine on the bumper, and it gives me plenty of light...(when ever I wheel at night) and they are just sq. cheapies. 50W IIRC. As far as the top bar; every now and again you'll run into those low hanging pine branches on the trail and there is always the chance you'll whack a light. .o2

X2... only a couple weeks till the Con run. You'll need some time to break in new gears before putting them to the trail. And not only that... I'm expecting yummy pancakes for breakfast! So you'd better hurry up!

hmmm, i was on the fence about doing pancakes this year. but since i see theres some interest in my cooking skills i might reconsider. if i do it on saturday then i get a late start on the trail and wont make it to spyder for the 4th time in a row. so that leaves sunday and everyoneones packing up and leaving will im cooking. then im the last one out.

i started to do the gear change and ran into some problems. when i pulled the rear driver axle i found it was twisted. i did a search on it to see if it was a normal thing that happens and would hopefully be still usable. from what i gather its broke but it just dosent know it yet. just to buy a one oem its around 200 or more. then you have to spend 50 on a bearing seal and collar. i found that summit racing sells factory ten alloy axles for 260 which includes 2 axles with bearings seals collar and studs and free shipping! should only take 2 days too. i also need to get new tera flex spacers and bearing retainer plates. i could gind off the old bearings and reuse the spacers and plates but i want to have spare axles anyway. if i didnt do the explorer disc brake conversion i wouldnt need the tera flex spacer to hold the bearing in place. after all that i took out the rear carrier and pinion and found that my inner pinion bearing was pitted. i know i set the preload right last time so i was a little surprised. the culprit seems to be a thin prelaod shim had come apart and part of the metal got in the bearing. its not the first time ive seen the thinner shims squeeze out. same thing happened on my truck d60 on the carrier bearings. so i took the numbers of the old pinion and compared them to the new ones and did the math to get the right shim count for a starting point, made some set up bearings (which is a must). i went to install everthing to see how close i was and the dam ring gear was aroung 3/16" away from the pinion gear! G2 sent me a thin ring gear instead of a thick one and i didnt catch it in time. it took them forever to send me the gears in the first place so i will never get this thing ready for the rubicon in 4 days. which really sucks. i will maybe try to put my old stuff back in but i ruined the old bearings. if i use the new ones ill have to try not to damage them to much pulling them of again. ill make the call on monday.

called g2 and they are puzzled why the d44 doesnt work . i gave them my carrier # and maybe a late model rubicon ring gear will fit? i assumed when i bought the carrier from river city diff that it was a 410 xj carrier, maybe it was for a different jeep that still fits the cherokee but uses thick gears. c and h auto can get me the bearing retainers tomorrow and the axles have shipped from carson city summit racing. should be here soon. havnt heard from tera flex on shipping yet but i paid handsomely for 2nd day air whaterver that means. i guess ill go put the old stuff back in temporarily for the rubicon trip
