the test drive went good. i put the rear tire on a rock and it had the same flex as before. i thought it might bind a little ,but it seems fine. the tire went into the flare,so i guess it's time to do the tj flairs.

i put the front ds on and drove up wentworth to take the kids to the snow. the road is plowed up until there are no more houses, and them its all snow and ice. i went in a little ways and if i got out of the ruts then the jeep would go sideways and slide. the snow had froze hard and any off camber would send the jeep sideways. i decided to not travel in to far since i have no winch. we just hung around the end of the road and watched people go in. and have a big snow ball fight. its nice to have the snow line just minutes from our house.

I picked up my birthday present a little early, a smitty built winch.

i found some 1/4" steel and started to fab the mounting plate.

i wasn't sure how i was going to secure the back bolts. instead of putting the nuts on the inside of the frame i welded some nuts to some 1/4" square washers ,that will be welded on the top of the frame.

the square washers will also make the plate level and high enough to clear that little factory gusset in the front.

it got late so ill be at again tomorrow

Thanks for sharing the build

Gave me a lot of ideas for my own YJ. As said above, can't wait to see the finished project.

Very cool idea! Are those grade 8 nuts? Nice you're so close to the con! Planning any trips this season?
Nice build up!

they were grade 8 before i welded on them, who knows now.

yes i will be doing some trips to the con, its been since the early 90's tho since i was past wentworth springs or loon lake dam. right now from george town you can go to ucle tom's cabin, but it gets dicey past that. so i here. from the ice house road side it's plowed ,but they push the snow in a big pile towards the trail. my next trip is a presidents weekend bash at pismo.

i have old wheeling friends from the bay area that im am trying to get back with as well as going a club up here.
i don't want to do the con solo.

you can put both your shims on one side and it will work, but you might as well do it right.
