Went a visited a 1998 Cherokee being parted out in Kansas City. The trip was a success and I also learned that the MJ is by far the most squirrelly rig on slick roads! It started to fishtail at 60mph on the highway after it down shifted!!!

With snow falling I was dreading the fact I was going to be stripping parts. Luckily it was in a shop with 4 helpful people and a sawsall.... I came back with the following:

+ Front Header
+ Front Grill
+ Headlight wiring harness
+ Bumper
+ Bumper Caps
+ Both Front Fenders
+ Both Front Doors
+ 1 fender flare
...all for $150

I need to get the front turn signal housings/lens and a fender flare. Also need to figure out how to get my future power windows, locks, and mirrors to work.

very nice, wish my familys MJ was in that good of condition!

Very nice Brett! Let me know if I can help with parts searching. I am sure there is many good parts over here in Colorado. I took a job transfer to Grand Junction. You need to come out and go wheeling.

Thanks Reuben! I am back in Kansas finishing up my degree... who knows where the wind will take me after this May. I am looking for a rust free long bed with tailgate. If you happen to come across one, let me know

I picked up a few more parts from the same XJ
+ Power Brake booster, Master Cylinder, Proportioning Valve, and Pedal assembly
+ Windshield washer fluid tank that goes on the inside of the fender
+ Upper Heater hose with factory Clamps
+ Dome Light
+ Interior harness parts for the power mirror/lock/window in the XJ doors
+ Interior Dash
+ Steering Column/Wheel
+ Weather Stripping
+ Door striker pins
.... for $75

I do not want to do a full 97+ XJ interior swap due to wiring and PCM issues. Going to have fun retrofitting the 97+ interior facade

Nice truck MJ. I have an 89. That 92 is in sweet condition, especially since they only made 985 that year. 92s are getting very hard to find, especially in that condition.

Thanks for the comment. Wow, only 985! Had no idea!

The truck is in good shape. That said, I have purchased a 'new', rust free bed, as a 6x3 chunk fell out of the factory one and the rest of it is about to fall in. I am in the process of POR15'ing the 'rust shelf' above the rear wheel wells/skin... then the 'new' bed is off to paint. I also have rust free cab corners to be welded in and may need new rockers, hard to say... once the body guys get in there I will know more. She also needs new floors, but that should not take the body guys long once the truck get in there.

I am determined to make the truck last another 50 years with no problem... at least rust wise

Engine loads up on fuel at idle causing it to idle rough. Cleans out perfectly all other times. New Distributor, rotor, plugs, a number or sensors, and IAC have not yielded new results. I am banking on the O2 sensor and cracked exhaust manifold as the problem.

I picked up a new RUST FREE bed/tailgate and rocker panels from this truck for my truck. To be painted April 27.


April 14, 2009
Time for some new wheels. I grabed this set of Moabs locally. Need repainted, but is great shape. I have 2 of the 5 wheels shot with self etching primer. To be painted with duplicolor silver wheel coating. Going to wrap them with Cooper ST (not STT) in a 30" version.

I like red Comanches. Mine is blue, but it never had any body rot. Used mostly in summers as an RV. But it's 2WD and not a good mudder. Good luck with it and keep it nice.

The bed has been at the body shop for about 1.5 weeks. He says he is working a wave out of the passenger side of the bed and pain is soon if not already happening. I am having the inside of the bed stripped and will apply some sort of bed liner. He is a local guy my father used in the late 70's to paint a '66 Chevy pick up show truck.

Not all Jeeps have to be mudders None of mine are intended for that use... I just plan on making the truck that Chrysler never did or will do. I had no plans of lifting this truck.

Thanks for the comments.

I recent hit 195K miles on the truck.... getting close to the 200K mark, still getting 16mpg with a bad MAP sensor and cracked exhaust header.On a sad note, the truck does use some coolant. So, I will need to replace the head gasket when I get down there and replace the cracked exhaust manifold.

I stopped by the body shop and he was getting the best perfectly straight. Once he finishes buffing and putting together an 08 mustang, the bed will get attention and paint! Hope to get that XJ front clip and doors stuck on in the following week. This way the truck will be bolted together for the body shop guy and the electrical stuff will be taken care of.
