90 YJ LS1 Swap

Iím about ĺ of the way done with a power train swap on my 90 YJ. It started life as a 2.5 TBI/AX-5 ***** box. I still drove the piss out of it. I had no lift, 31Ē general tires, herculined tub, Corbeau Forza seats (because the stock ones rusted and broke), and that was about it. It was a DD so I couldnít allow it to be down too long. Well I deployed and bought a truck so the Jeep became more of a toy after that. Got orders to 29 Palms, started wheeling a lot more and blew the motor up (was just waiting to blow it). So started the motor swap. Here are some pics. Iíll try to add more later.

Stock as he!!
38

Blew up the motor on the trail, made it home so I started tearing it all down.
PB010138

My boy picked this up for me. I found a sweet deal on ebay for motor and trans out of a 2000 Camaro
PC180012

It had wiring harness, and all accís as well as a hotrod oil pan. The guy did some good work on the motor before he sold it.
PC180014

Body work under way. My buddy can do great things with bondo and sand paper.
5

Sheís all naked
2

Not a very good pic of the motor / trans /transfer but it all went together thanks to Novak.
1

Fresh paint. Itís Viper Red and of course itís the most expensive paint you can buy in the universe.
6

Who took my motor?
8

14

International Scout rear, Ford Bronco front and Scout knuckles
12

The rear all dressed up and with disk brakes and ARB locker
16

Front ready to go with disk brakes as wellÖ Donít forget about its ARB locker either
20

RE 1.5Ē springs are on and waiting on axles
15

RE SOA, 1.5Ē springs with rear mounted
18

Motorís in there. We got to adjust the skid plate and a few things but thatís pretty much where itís going to ride.
21

Donor wheels and tires. 38.5/17ís crazy big.
23

Old tank
26

New tank
27

35/12.5Ē BFG KM2, 15/10Ē black pro comp rims
24

Thatís about it so far. I have more pics to post but no time to do it. As more things happen Iíll try to update.

VERY NICE....I am doing the same swap on my 77 CJ5....I'm not going to hijack your thread with my details....but I have a question. Did you use the T-56 bellhousing for your adapter? Mine is coming in the mail this week and I've gotta figure out whether to use the 4l60e housing or T-56.....

I'm using the 4L65E that came with the motor. I thought about keeping it a 5 speed but I like the idea of the wife being able to driving my jeep (call it a fetish) and it would have been more money. I had a AX-5 to begin with so I would have had to find another tranny. If you need good info on swaps got to http://www.novak-adapt.com/ they have so much info on their web site and if you call them they're pretty nice guys and will help you out.

I bought my drive shafts. I got them from Tom Woods. I can't say enough nice things about Tom Woods. The customer service was awesome, the shipping was quick and the parts look sexy as hell. Also they gave me a 20% military discount (never hurts to ask). I'll get some pics this weekend if it doesn't rain on me.
