89 YJ All Around Rig

So I have been trolling build threads for a while now and decided to pull the trigger on my own build.

I picked up this 89 YJ in late April and man did I score! It had 130K original on the 4.2 with a 5spd. Unfortunately it has the BA/10, but the tranny and TC (NP231) wherew replaced within a month of my purchase.

The PO's towed this rig behind there camper and did a few interesting things to her, here goes!

When I got her home -

Hard Top w/ full doors
Safari top
BestTop heated and reclining front seats
Sound bar
BT locking console
6" YJ style flares
Custom front and rear bumpers
Smittybuilt tube steps
3" body lift
JKS Disco's
Superwinch 9K winch w/Tomken winch plate w/ brush guard
Hella fog lights on front bumper
31x10.50x15 MT's on some old school Mickey Thompsons almost new minus spare
and a horn that makes the old school car sound "aaaaoooooggaaa".

And thats about it when she cam home with me.

Since then and bringing her to as she sits now -

Spidertrax 1.25" 5x4.5 to 5x5 adapters
17" Moab wheels form an 08' JK
Stock size BFG MT's from same 08' JK (roughly 32x10.50)
AtoZ Fab. spare tire adapter
New tailgate
Old school CJ style mirrors mounted to windshield frame
RC 1.25" Boomerang front shackles (to level)
TJ flares - minus the marker lights as of now

She has some normal scratches on the body but a totally rist free tub!!! Like I said I got lucky for sure!

Here she is today -

Hopefully I uploaded these pics correctly.

I will post my plans for her in a seperate post.

So here are the plans -

As the title states, this is going to be an all around rig. I will only be wheeling every once in a while and it won't be on any super challenging terrain so I am not going crazy right out of the gate. It is also going to serve as my DD for a while too so I am trying to hit a nice area between bada$$ trail rig and manageable DD.

Eventually when I replace it as a DD I will go SOA and go totally nuts with mods!

First things first - BL is going BYE BYE!! Never been a big BL fan so 3" is way too much!
Next those POS Smitty built tube steps are history!

Now for some things going on the rig -

Fabtech 3.5" Performance Lift Kit
Polyurethane bushings on entire vehicle
Daystar 0" grease-able shackles
OME steering stabilizer
Smittybuilt SRC front bumper
Rampage SRS rear bumper and tire carrier
iVault console
Cragar Soft-8's 15x8 in black
33"x12.50 A/T's (haven't picked a brand yet)
MetalCloak Overline Front fenders
MetalCloak 4" front flare
MetalCloak Rockers
MetalCloak Rear quater armor
MetalCloak Rear 4" flares
Savvy offroad LED slim lights

Few...that looks expensive!

Most of this should be pretty quick, but please be patient with me on this build and suggest as you please because I am definitely open to ideas!

I will also likely paint it myself, black fenders, flares, armor, etc... and either OD green or desert tan body.

I will also likely beef up the frame or switch to a family bar eventually as well as do a 4.0 swap when the 4.2 gives up.

Hope you all enjoy!

Been doing some thinking and reading today and I might go with 35's since those MetalCloaks give plenty of room. Only thing is, I don't want to do any axle rebuilding/swapping at this stage. Will my rig be able to turn those without much trouble if I am not doing anything serious wheeling wise?

So my YJ build just dramatically shifted into a TJ build!

I happened across a deal that I could not in my right mind pass up. I will post pics of the new TJ soon and give ful details.

Also keep an eye out for the ad for the YJ as I only have room for one Jeep unfortunately.

Good luck with the TJ build. I can't wait to see how it turns out. Either way, you will end up with a nice jeep.
