88 yj Flat tow trail rider
I recently bought a beat to hell 88 yj with a 4.2 auto. The tub was pretty much junk, all the linkage on the carb was froze, and the transfercase linkage was froze so I bought it anyway. I had just planned on fixing it up and selling but as things are coming together I really want to build it.

Last year I had a stock 94 2.5 yj that I set up to flat tow up north and I loved it. So the plan now is to build a more capable but mild trail rig. I live in MI so probably won't be doing much rock crawling.

Anyway I'm starting with an 88 4.2 auto with 132,000 miles, stock axels with 4.10 gears, I've installed a new stock replacement carburator, cleaned and freed the transfercase linkcage, replaced all of the sheetmetal from under the cowl to the back tires, floorpan, inner hinge pillars, tub corners, both fenders, 4" flushmount led's, and I have a new windshield frame to install.

The jeep came with a bran new 4" rough country lift, new goodyear 31x10.50 silent armor at's, and vacuum engage delete.

Future plans are to swap tires for some 33x12.50 mt's, add lockers, tow shackles (bought or built) not sure yet, homemade front bumper, rear swingout tire carrier bumper, rocker guards, windshield light brackets, frame patches, lisence plate relocation, roll bar mods, and a hard bikini top.

Here's where I'm at now.

Rusty windshield frame? Think twice.
So I pulled the windshield frame today, it was a complete nightmare. I had to weld a bolt to each frame bolt just to pull them out. I hate torx bolts. I knew I would have a little bit of cowl patching but it's much worse than I thought.

The hinges were so tight I could almost hang from them.

Does anyone know why my photobucket pics aren't working? I changed the resolution on my camera, so this should be the last of the giant pics.

Seems like you have a lot of things to plan and do.

Just filled the gas tank for the first time only to learn it leaks, (after the muffler shop caught it on fire). The idiot told me he smelled gas but continued cutting hangers with a torch. Lucky I was there to see it, he dumped a 20oz pop on it and kept working. I could still see it burning from the shop window and made them hose it down. Lucked out big time, no real damage.

Just have to find the leak now, hoping it's a vent overflowing.

The time now is 12:22 AM.
