73 Jeep Commando Build

I am looking to buy a 73 jeep commando next weekend. This will be my first jeep and my first build. It is in pretty good shape. mostly body work needed. 20,000 miles on a 304 AMC V8 with a turbo 300 AMC/GM trans. I am looking for anything I need to be aware of before buying and hopefully I will be able to continue to post my build here. Here is the Jeep and Engine...

Mild or wild?? I have a few commando builds I have been following and plan to build one with my sons. The reason I like them is they are sort of the bastard child of the cj family, kind of like a YJ. lots of guys get rid of the commando front clip and replace it with a cj front clip. I have a commando I've had my eye on for a few years. Good luck and cant wait to see what you have planned for it
here are some of my favorite commando builds.

Great rig!!

here is my old one, same setup. I think it was the best combo offered by JEEP.

This is what I would like to do. Keep the overall look of the Jeep with a nice lift. Where do I start? New axles? Brakes? Lift?

BTW $3500 with 20,000 miles. Good deal or not?

Pricing depends on location, and heck, do you feel like you got a good deal? If so then it was.
Mine was stock axles, and i had no problem with them. I did a spring over, but they do make lift kits for them, but widely supported. Get it running good and go from there. Going balls out to change axles shouldnt even be a thought right now. Fix what you break, and upgrade when that happens. enjoy it!!
