you got lucky on the all-thread LOL!!

today was a a bit of a frustrating day regarding the super 6 jeep lol.... she decided to fight today! all I want to do is help her and shes arguing with me LOL....

I got the t case back up in the tunnel. noticed the stock trans mount was shot so I ran up to the auto store for a new one. picked up some trinkets and so PB Blaster. when I got back, took a second and shot the upper rear shock bolts. I really think im going to out board on this jeep. I have the ford towers that I opted no to do in the silver LS jeep. im thinking of grabbing an 8.8 a guy has on CL and just getting to it. IDK...



figured id get this on today..


so the steering shaft pillow block mount bolt [top] broke off, SWEET... had to drill that out..yay extra 20 minutes on that.


I cant get the doors to pop off either. I had the jack under the drivers side, wiggling it and she still wouldn't give up the ghost. wtf.


I noticed the front pass u joint is junk so the shafts will have to come out.

messing with the drivers side shaft, found the drivers hub bearing is junk'd.... sweet

ok so ill pull the front lowers off and start throwing the lift under it... well that didn't work out so well as the front LCA bolts are seized to the inner stock LCA sleeves. perfect! they have to be cut out... YES! so I said the hell with it and pulled the front axle out from under the jeep.

well I think the 6 day build is out as I keep running into little issues. I think I should just keep it to a 'total hours' thing LOL

today I put in about 2 hours.... pulling the front end apart [hub bearings, shafts] one of the hub bolts broke


and cutting out the old lower links


I know I can get the axles rebuilt tomorrow. hub bearings, pretty sure ill be able to source them, the hub bolt...ehhh maybe. cam bolts ehhh maybe.

hmmm Spartan locker up front while its all apart, could have it by tues if I go thru summit..

I pulled the trigger on the Spartan locker for the front last night, on my door step by noon today. the flares came in as well. I wish I could get this darn blazer finished so I can get back to the jeep.

bummer this jeep only has 3.07 gears, not even 3.73's come on!!! LOL. I may have a 4.10 set sitting on the shelf.

I need to find a local guy who does gears on the side!!!!

tomorrow [weds] we are going to put a few hours into this jeep and see how close we can get LOL.... hub bearings should be here...

I wouldn't mind 4.10s in mine with a 4.6L & 31s & I have 3.73s. I can't imagine 3.07s

all I can say today is.....

ok now that I go that out of the way....
the hub bearings came in.... and yes I know I left the dust shields off.


we got the front axle back under the jeep and it all in. all I have to do is tighten the lower cam bolts and upper CA bolts. fought the remaining pieces of the links out of the sway bar.


pretty much where the front is at. we would have been farther along but the K5 blazer is throwing curve balls at me. the front 60 was fighting the tear down process today.


so then I jumped on the back, figured id knock it out.. RIIIGHT!. all 4 upper shock bolts broke off.. [given] but the real b!tch is the upper bumpstop bolts are rusted away, so to the point I cant get any type of socket on them. CHIT!!! I will have to drill them out tomorrow. I have to have proper spaced bump stops.

hey thanks extreme for rubbin it in LOL.... I briefly lived out in Avondale last summer. my goal is to get back to phoenix area sooner than later. LOL

I think I will turn this into the 12 day build, LOL... I worked 36 hours over the weekend helping out a family friend at the citys street fair thing.

I was able to get [1] of the rear bumpstops out with the old snap on extractor kit. whew. going to try for the other one here in a minute, and then knock out the upper shock weld nuts. maybe I can have her back on her wheels by tomorrow night.

okay. I tried to beat out one of the upper shock bolts and it ripped the top layer of the cross-member apart.. SWEET so its either drill out the other 3 after I pry the frame ripping weld nut off.. or outboard. probably outboard but that's just me asking for more punishment and something else to pop up LOL.

cause me and this jeep are havin a fight. shes resisting any efforts to change. I went to change the leaking rear brake cylinder and yep, a fight ensued... now she needs a brake cylinder and a new brake line from the cylinder to the 't'.

made some progress tonight.

got the upper CA cam spacers installed. drilled out the forward area I needed to. tack welded the cam washers in place and bolted it all up and slid the lower links into location.

the drivers side bumpstop mounting bolt came out without issue...

got the sway bar links installed

bolted the new track bar mount to the axle then went ahead and threw a couple tack welds here and there just to truly lock it down.

popped the springs up in their new home

tomorrow I need to put the axle side track bar bolt in. going to see if I can find a piece of flat stock to make landing plates on the back side of the LCA mounts for the outboard process.

getting close... I guess if I can keep it under two weeks ill be ok with that.

getting the old flares off and the new 7" flares on. I cleaned the body and then rubbed it out with some polish before the new flare went on. you can see the difference just looking at the corner seem

got the front clip back on..

also accomplished...
changed the brakes on the pass side, got the new brake line installed on the drivers rear corner.... tightened steering pillow block mount down, put cotter pins in the front spindles and pitman TRE, tightened up control arm bolts... wired up the heavy lines to the starter, alternator and grounds

she is sitting on her shoes and the last flare is on


and got the frickin doors off... what a pain.


the drivers lower pin was bent so I had to take off the body side hinge. hmm need some new pins and bushings..

time for a little update....

SHE RUNS!! fired it up the on sunday afternoon after getting back from up north. SWEET.. that's awesome.

I ordered 1" lift motor mounts but when they came in they were for a 2.5L, nope, nada gonna work. sent back and correct kit ordered.

picked up steel last Thursday for a few projects, including a piece of 2x4 .250" box tube to make some bumpers. the rear is going to get a swing out tire carrier for sure. playing with 'carrier' designs.

I also hit napa and got [2] shock stud kits. while I was there, I bought another 40torx socket. never hurts to have at least 3 of those things around if your are working on jeeps on a daily!!

Monday I cut some plates out. today I cut some more pieces out, grabbed the plasma, metabo, grinder and welder.. then had a party. LOL welded the flat plate to the backsides of the LCA mounts on the axle, popped a hole in the 'angle' correcting plates for the shock studs. I welded the nut to the backside of the plate. seems to be the best approach to this. makes the stud replaceable with minimum effort.



tack welded the pieces to the LCA mounts and grabbed an old 12" travel shock I had laying around from the blazer project.

rough cut it out with the plasma, then went back over it and opened it up with the metabo.





I followed the suggestion to open the lower portion of the shock tower and that seemed to work out just fine. weld in the top and the bottom, then take a BFH to open up the tower.

after welding the top and bottom, then 'forming' the outer walls into position



pass side burned in and painted


drivers upper and lower mounts all finished. should have new shocks on the door step tomorrow. if so, then I can button the rear all up!

no motor mounts but shocks came in and I went to the steel shop.

the rear outboard set up is all done with the new pro comp [budget] shocks installed.




some heavy metal from the steel shop




cut and started drilling out the bumper mounting plates. I make mine out of 4" wide 3/8" plate and cut the bottom to match the stock lines. just my way I drilled the inner 2 holes as well for a total of [4] but forgot that pic



cut the bumper tube out for the pass thru clevis mounts


then cut out some clevis mount 'blanks'


welded the back sides...




then something alittle different than everyone else... cut some 2" sections of 3.0" OD .250" wall DOM for the bumper stand offs..




im going round tube for my carrier, going to be different. everyone else pretty much runs square or rectangular, most likely because they don't have a bender sitting in the shop. I just went and fished mine out of storage today and got it mounted to the floor I plan on mocking that all up tomorrow after I get someone to help me line up and tack the bumper to the mounting plates.

picked up [4] new door 'pins' from the dealer and the new bushing kit came in as well. cant wait to have removable functioning doors. theres a set of half doors in the Yukon for her as well

the darn motor mounts better be here tomorrow. jeff's bringing back my battery so I should be able to drive her on Friday after tying up some little things. maybe a trip to the DMV for plates Friday... hmmm that would be cool.

PS...... I NEED A WELDING TABLE
