$500 WJ Project and soon DD

From the Beginning.

Bought it for $500 from an uncle of mine. He owns a wrecker service and found it on the side of the road. Him not knowing what was wrong with it and me always wanting a Jeep I took it off his hands. It DID NOT come with any key what so ever so I couldn't trouble shoot it until I got the paperwork in which took 6 months because of a VIN malfunction. After I got the key made I found all that was wrong with it.

The BAD:
No gas
Electric fan relay was busted
Transmission is overfilled but not damaged
CV boots are torn to shreds
Front and rear brakes
Front and rear rotors
Needs all new speakers
Alignment
Tires
Cracked windshield

The GOOD:
Motor sounds great, no noises
Transmission shifts well
No leaks
108,646 miles
No body damage

Day I got it:

Where It sits now:Photobucket

Done so far:
Painted Cladding
Bought 2" lift and Bilsteen Shocks(not on yet)
Serviced Transmission

Soon to be done:
Install lift and shocks
Change Brakes and rotors
New wheels and tires(unsure what kind, input appreciated)
New Windshield
New stereo system
Full exhaust
K&N Intake
Sliders
Roof rack
Spare tire carrier

Any Input is awesome!

It's a Jeep, it's not supposed to work right all the time.

What did you paint your cladding with, what type/brand of paint?

I used krylon fusion satin black. Took about 4 cans.

I removed all cladding to paint it, including bumpers. Did not paint it on the jeep.

Update: since I'm in a different state for school and my jeep is back home until I get new tires. I just wanted to update y'all on what's coming soon. Within the next week I'm going home and I'm going to install my 2" lift, hopefully get some nitto terra grapplers or general grabber at2s then I'll post up some pics on before and after including some install shots.

I actually bought a boot kit. Had a mechanic look at it and the cv joints are still in good condition. From what it looks like it hasn't been like this for very long

Installed my 2" front spacer and 3/4 rear spacer. Now awaiting to get some new tires. Thought I had a set of rims and tires lined up bur unfortunately the deal did not go through. I'll be posting just a before and after shot now but I will be posting build shots when I get my new shocks in. They were delayed. They are bilstein shocks.

Gotta love having time to piddle with stuff over Labor day weekend. Call over to a couple local Junkyards. Chances are pretty good that you can get a grille in good condition for a minimal of expense ($10-20). I'd paint it black to match that cladding.

It went pretty smooth. Took me about 2 hours to do the task. Then again I do have all the tools needed for the job. And I was thinking about getting the grill out a junk yard, eBay, or maybe the classifieds on here if the price is right with shipping. When I get the grill I plan on doing the gutter mesh modification to it. MAYBE. depends on if it's really the look I'm going for. If I do the mod I'll do the bumper to match, unless I get an aftermarket bumper. I'm thinking about the one from protofab. Looks pretty sweet. It's just the bar showing, no flat parts. But I may wait out until I get a bigger lift because im sure it still weighs a cow and a half. Bumper photo below

Local pickup is always cheaper and sometimes there's that last minute haggling. I love it when I find folks doing part-outs on the same year/make/model I'm looking for...leaves almost no doubt along the lines of "will it fit right?". That bumper should look really good with this Jeep lifted and re-shoed. Keep up the good work! Progress looks good!
