33s or 35s + lift

Looking to improve off-road performance. Have a stock '12 Sahara Unlimited. Do about 80% road travel (mostly highway) and 20% off-road fun. Have had mud difficulty in the past (especially if clay-heavy).

I'm looking at either good 33s or going to better 35s with a 3" lift. Any thoughts from your experience? I'd like good off-road experience, but realize that most of my time is on pavement, and still need some roadworthiness there.

Thanks
