285 vs 305

Im ready to upgrade from my stock tires and wheels but really unsure of the tire size now. stuck between nitto 285 70 17 and pro comp extreme at 305 65 17 its about a $400 difference but I'm already past my budget. Will i regret the 285's? it will be used mostly for daily driving off roading once in a while. planning to eventually get a small spacer lift. will be running on M/T CLASSIC III's. what do you guys think? any advice. thanks.
