2005 Patriot Blue TJ Wrangler Rocky Mountain Edition -3"OME HD Lift + Extras

Hi all!

Thanks to all of you for helping me spend my money so needlessly!!

On February 8th, 2008, I purchased a 2005 Automatic Patriot Blue TJ Wrangler Rocky Mountain Edition. I bought it on ebay for $13,500.00. It only had 27,000 miles and is still under warranty.

The Rocky Mountain Edition came with the 42RLE Automatic Transmission, NP231 Transfer Case, 3.73 Gears and a Dana44 Rear.

Here is a pic of what it looked like the day I picked it up:

Since then, I haven't done anything except remove both the funky decal it had on the side and the Rocky Mountain Edition sticker.

Here are a some of pics as it sits right now:

I have been reading and reading and reading on this and other forums since before I even got the Jeep to figure out what mods I was going to do... hahaha.

I finally decided on a setup and placed the order for everything last Wed., 6/4. I have already received a few things but, I'm still waiting on the bulk of it. It should be here any day this week.

Here is what I ordered: (separated by vendor)

JeepsAreUs.com
Front OEM Tow Hooks
Front and Rear 'New Style' Bumper End Caps
OEM Foglight Switch (for when I install rear lights)

Quadratec.com
Bestop Replace-A-Top Tinted Window Kit

NorthRidge4x4.com
3" OME HD ZJ/LJ Combo Lift Kit (with angled CV/DS bracket)
-this kit comes with OME Nitrocharger Shocks, OME Steering Stabilizer, OME Coils, Bump Stops
JKS Adjustable Rear Upper Control Arms
JKS Adjustable Front and Rear Trackbars
JKS Quicker Disconnects
AA SYE + CV Driveshaft
Nth Degree Mobility Tummy Tucker/Transfer Case Skid

All of this for a total of: $2637.75

I'm still missing the tires which will be Interco Super Swamper TSL/Radials, 32x10.5 R15. A local 4x4 shop quoted me at $148.00/tire and $135.00 for mounting and balancing 5 of them. If you know of a better deal, let me know. I'm going to mount them on my Ravine rims with no spacers. I want the tires tucked in under the fender flares. I like 'em tall and skinny...

So far, I've received the tints and all the stuff from JeepsAreUs.com. I'm waiting to install everything at once. My Jeep is going to go into the shop one vehicle and come out another. How awesome is that? Also, I'm going to paint the yellow OME shocks and stabilizer to match the Patriot Blue paint on the Jeep.

I'm attempting all of this between myself and a buddy. His dad's got a warehouse with a hydraulic lift and everything.

Hopefully, I'll get the all the stuff from NorthRidge4x4 soon so I can do the build this week. I'm thinking it should take us two full days?? Any thoughts on that?

I'll keep everyone here posted on when I get all my components...

Also, I'd like to mention that David at NorthRidge4x4 was very nice and helpful... and, they'll work with you on price matching against their competitors. I had heard good things about them on these forums and can only say that so far, those things have been true.

And, Flatlander757... Buddy, you are a wealth of information. It's thanks to you that I've decided to build my Jeep this way. Thank you!

Please feel free to leave me any comments, suggestions or advice. These things are always very much appreciated!

For tire mounting, I had mine originally mounted at an off-road shop for $50, or $10 per tire. So definitely shop around. $135 for mount and balance is insane.

Check out Sears, I bought the "lifetime balance and rotate" from them for like $50... I utilize the hell out of that with my Swampers Get them balanced and rotated every 3k miles. I may be wrong but I THINK if you get your tires mounted there you get the lifetime balance for no extra charge, so definitely look into that.

I'd plan about 3 days for everything, I did my lift over a weekend, but I also take my time to do stuff and allow time for food and I did it in my driveway, but plan it out in stages so you're not stuck wrenching until 2am because you have to get to work the next day.

x2, try sears, sam's club, and even walmart, but be sure to tell them that you have Brand New tires that need mounted, because i know for sure they wont mount used ones, least around me, because of liability or something

Thanks for the advice.

So, you mean, take them the tires that I purchased somewhere else and they'll mount and balance them? That's pretty neat if they do that.

I just ordered the paint for the shocks and am looking for a torque wrench and torx bits. I went to PepBoys, Autozone, Advance Auto Parts and Home Depot. No one had a decent torque wrench or torx bits. They all looked rather flimsy. I'll try Sears later or tomorrow and also ask about the tire mounting and rotation for life deal.

I'm still waiting on all the parts from Northridge4x4. It looks like I'll have to wait about a week and a half to do this since by buddy will be out of town all of next week and I probably won't get the parts and paint till then anyways.

...the sea is calm. I'm just waiting for now...

get torx bits with a good warranty... as in lifetime. I've turned most of mine into twislers more than once. If you have the chance replace your torx bolts with real ones.

Mine looked almost exactly like that a couple of months ago.

She's a real beauty and you got a nice deal on her. GREAT jeep to start with.

So, I got all my stuff in except the JKS trackbars (those come in tomorrow). I've taken the OME shocks out and sanded/primed them. I'm painting them tomorrow with Patriot Blue paint. I think it's gonna look pretty sweet.

Also, I couldn't wait to start my build to put the tints on... here is a pic of the tints and of the sanding/priming in progress.

Ok, today I got my JKS trackbars so, I just need a good two days in my buddy's garage...

Here's a pic of the OME shocks after one coat of the Patriot Blue. I still have one more coat to go and then two coats of clear.

Looks nice there Fella, Like that colour on the TJ. We don't get that one over here.
As for the shock colour, nice job but if it's anything like mine it won't last long. I havent seen the colour of mine for about 7 years. It's just one mass of mud & crud.
