Finally started the 8.8 swap and final frame repair last night. Pulled the old Dana 35 (turdy-five). Today I am cutting out the rust sections and welding in a safe-t-cap frame repair section. I will take some pictures of the progress. Hoping to test fit the 8.8 tomorrow, then finish welding, and start plumbing brake lines. Stay tuned!

Updates! The jeep hit 150,000 but the engine transmission and everything else all have 3,000 miles or less.

Finally got the 8.8 swap done, pulled the Dana 35 out

Also fixed the last section of frame repair which came out pretty nice

Got the 8.8 test fitted

Bought the axle originally without realizing it had no C-clips! So after tracking down the only two in the state I put them in, but in the process, a spider gear decided to fall on my chest, which was kind of funny!

Cleaned up the stock diff cover

Also ordered a lube-locker gasket, impressed with its ability to hold lube without any RTV!

After running the brake lines and e brake cables the axle was done. So far the brakes are fine and the 4.10's are much nicer. Lower crawl ratio and much better on the highway. I do have some minor vibrations, but I expected that since I still have the stock driveshaft. I'll probably do a SYE and CV driveshaft somewhere down the road. Here's a picture of the finished axle.

Been a while since I updated this... Picking up a set of 35" KM2's this week. Really considering ordering metalcloak arched fenders w/ a 4" flare, and a PSC BFH front bumper with a trail stinger... Any input would be awesome!

If you have the money do it.

but after a quick search i noticed this:

NOTE: You MUST have Metalcloak Arched Tube Fenders to mount this flare. The flare only mounts on the Metalcloak Arched Tube Fender.

just thought i would put it in there incase.

Couldn't resist. Last night I ordered the metalcloak arched tube fenders, 4 inch flares (both with factory powder coat), and a Poison spyder BFH front bumper with the trail stinger and shackle mounts. Can't wait for it to get here!

Awesome thread and jeep. Very similar to mine. Your is pretty much the same path I am looking at taking with my TJ. Wish my dad were still around to teach me the mechanical stuff that I would like to do on my own such as axle swaps and drivetrain replacements. Looking at your jeep for inspiration!

Bumper is on! Mounted my fog lights and re-wired them to work with the new mounting points.

You're going to love the Metalcloak fenders. They change the whole look of the Jeep and they work so well.

Just got word from metalcloak that my fenders have shipped a week early and are due to arrive here on Monday (10/28/13). Hoping to install them by the following weekend.
