2002 TJ High School "Build always in progress"

edit: FIRST OFF: I should tell you, this thread starts off lame, then gets cooler and cooler as I figure out what the right upgrades and mods are.

About 2.5 years ago I bought a 2002 Jeep Wrangler X. I was 16 and it was my first car. This thread represents the progress I have made with it in the last year, and the great times I have had with it. It's nothing intense but I am proud to say I paid for everything you see in the pictures. I work every day in the summer making $12.00 an hour landscaping. The rest of the year (now) I am attending military school, or out at sea on our 540' training ship, so please bear with me! I will try to make the thread up to date ASAP.

Here goes...

As a kid I had always seen Jeep's driving around and thought it was awesome how people took the tops AND the doors off. My dad did the final convincing I needed while searching for my first car. I ended up finding this 2002 Wrangler X (6 cylinder, 5 speed manual transmission) in almost immaculate condition. It had 137,000 miles. Based on the shape it was in, and the fact that it had a bulletproof 4.0L, I decided to buy the jeep for a little over $7,000 (almost all of my life savings LOL).

The first step of the project had to be jacking her up a little. I found an ad on craigslist for a brand new 4" Rough Country N2.0 Lift Kit. Turns out the guy was in the Marine Corps and had just returned from Afghanistan. He had to sell his Jeep before he deployed but kept the brand new lift. We talked a bit and he said he needed a way to stay in shape since he wasn't doing PT any more. Long story short I ended up trading him my bicycle for the lift.

Here are some pictures of the lifting process. Had to cut open the frame to do the t-case drop because the nutserts didn't cooperate when I took the bolts out. Welded nuts to a piece of steel and put that inside the frame. Put a nice big patch on the frame and its stronger than ever!

Also had to weld the head back onto the rear track-bar bolt since it broke off somehow

I got bored one day after school and decided to make some cheap $7 quick disconnects. Got the hardware from the local hardware store.

My stock steering stabilizer was on its way out, so I decided to buy a new one... I also knew that I'd be putting some bigger tires on soon, so all the more reason to do it.

Gave a girl with a broken ankle a ride to school, backing into her driveway I totally owned her stone wall... I guess that's what you get for being a nice guy. Wall: 1 Jeep: 0.
