Gauge pod done, twin 12" fans in and wired up. Oil cooler arrived, bracket fabricated and installed. We're getting close now!

Here's a list of things I've used of the Mercedes for those out there debating a swap:
Engine out of Mercedes
Oil cooler and lines
Engine mounts (for pattern)
All plugs for wiring
Assorted vacuum lines
Fan relay and wiring
Fuel shutoff solenoid
Glow plug relay
Downpipe
Intake hose
Power steering lines
Badges

That's the big stuff!

Never heard of this swap before, but I love it. Very nice work.

Could a mod rename this thread "1983 CJ7 Rebuild and Mercedes Om617 Diesel Conversion"

Thanks

It's a really neat swap, it was a Mercedes or a Chevy 6.2 or 6.5 diesel, but I favored the Mercedes because it frees a lot of room up, and it's really easy to work on.

Call parts store for an10 oil cooler fittings, his reply "we don't carry, umm, oil cooler hoses or anything like fittings or anything like that. I've never even heard of anything AN."

Why do I even try to help out these stores? haha

To the Internet I go!

A few shots of my oilpan. Keep in mind I have a bump stop missing, and I have yet to extend my frame bump stops. I will also tilt the engine ever so slightly with the existing jeep mount adjustments to swing the pan away from the pumpkin a little.

I believe they're 6"

They're exactly double the stock length.

Short drive! Ignore the rattling of the top

Intake done!

I'd like to get some actual 2.5" lift springs, or do a soa so I can ditch the gorilla-sized shackles and go back to stock (give me more caster, better approach, tighter steering, ect) but for now it has to be these shackles, I have no other option.

The turbo sure sounds good....I wish I would have went Cummins 4BT instead of the 360.
