I have basic knowledge, tearing an engine down, cleaning it, then putting it back together with new parts. Are you going with new rods, pistons,...? Also, what are your plans for the axles? I have a local jeep friend whos literally a master mechanic, his cj3 has the same axles as your cj. He put a locker in his amc 20, my locker should be here tomorrow

No new rod and pistons they are all good. I'm doing valves and cleaning it all up and painting it all. And axles I'm just rebuilding because they were all rusted and regearing from 2.73 to 3.54

Heres some info - http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/re...tj-d44-970997/
and

You will need new carriers for the front and rear if you regear. If you want a locker now is the time to do it. If you get a full locker it will completly replace the carrier, where the aussie locker I bought only replaces the spider and side gears. And are you just doing new valve seals and what not or are you replacing the valves? Is the engine already torn apart?

I have carriers from a spare d30 and amc20 that were 3.54 gears so I'm swapping those from the narrow to the wide axles.
And I'm just doing the valve seats and cleaning them up. Engine is torn apart been apart for about a month and a half.

Well if you already have the heads off it should be real easy. Do you have a valve spring compressor?

Iv got one, just got to find it lol. It clips on to the spring then you twist the top and it compresses. Should just be some keepers you have to remove then the spring slide right out. Iv replaced springs in another engine, have yet to tear into the xj. Im thinking about putting new lifters in soon.
