06' Rubi-CON build

First off the name 06' Rubi-CON comes from the D30 front end with a ected locker ...I bought it at night (I know) when test driving I put in 4wd then tested the lockers and they all worked so I was :D...About a week later a buddy of mine (Tuffjeeper) noticed the D30 (and thank god he did)...I just assumed being a rubicon and the locker working that all the Rubi parts were there...Now I agree that assumptions are the mother of all F---ups...But the steelership did buy me a new set of 35'' BFG KM2's, so that was nice of them and im sure they didn't know either...

Now I HATE mud and am a very clean person however the PO apparently LOVED it, im still getting dirt and mud off the undercarriage:(

This is my wife's DD and my toy:D...The kind of wheeling we enjoy doing isn't hardcore by any stretch of the imagination but we do enjoy Moab a few times a year...:2thumbsup:

So on to my very very slow build...

This is how it looked when we brought it home with a random 4'' lift and 32's...

First things first attack the unknown...I gathered a few opinions from JF members who I thought had good heads on their shoulders and built from there...And so far they havent let me down...

On goes the Currie Antirock (Love this thing)

Then the Genright steering box skid...

I did the Rubicon independent locker mod and used the Rugged Ridge switch pod and switches...
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c1...-03-02_728.jpg

I contacted Matt at Undercover Fab and ordered his long arm upgrade w/Johnny Joints...The ride and handling is excellent!!!

Poison Spyder Customs rocker knockers w/bar are handling protection duties...

Rokmen Trail corners protect the back corners...

And to finish off the rear a Poison Spyder "Tramp Stamp" ties the two corners together quite nicely...:D

And here she is after her bath today with the 35'' BFG's...

Thats it for now as I am out of $$$$$ but my next purchase will be the AEV rear spring relocation with 3'' rear springs and 4.5's up front...

wow....i am not sure i would have handled the whole "thought I bought a rubicon" thing the same way.

Jeepguy84 01-03-2012 04:38 PM

So pretty much it is a well done Rubi-clone that they dealer didn't catch?

Yeah, dont get me wrong I was Pissed beyond belief (I went to the city attorney) but I was lucky to get anything from them considering it was used and the "as is" crap...I demanded they replace it with the proper axle and they said they would give me the difference of price between the sport and the Rubi which is only $1200 so I asked for the new tires...Lucky I got anything

It still has the Rubi 241 RockTrac rear D44 with factory locker, so its still a Rubi minus the front D44...

I was thinking that this build needed a little sexxy Savvy ness so I picked up a front bumper with winch guard and some IPF 968's to fill in the front a little bit until I get my winch...

Attachment 339802

I also like the looks of it left aluminum with a little mothers polish treatment and the black winch guard adds just enough, bling and will look great with a matching rear bumper and aluminum Genright tire carrier...

I also added a 1" spacer and think it's sits perfect for me now...

Thanks :cheers2: Yeah pick one up, it's amazing how light that thing is, even fully loaded it's lighter than the stocker and it was less than 48hours to my doorstep ...
