Figure I'd start the thread off before I could post pictures as there is not much worth posting yet - been viewing the forum for a long time though. Found a 2004 Rubicon (black/black) at a car lot with a 9000i winch and light bar (not sure I like it) for a really good deal. Had 55,000 miles - when I put it up on the lift at my shop, really did not look as though it has been off-road before. Found it at a Toyota lot as a trade-in. I'll I have done so far is general maintenance work. Replaced spark plugs, did a throttle body clean out, oil and filter change, BG coolant flush (refilled with red Lexus coolant), MTF change and transfer case fluid change. Ordered some Riddler diff covers, then I will replace the diff fluids with some 75w140 real fluid. Interior was in good shape, but I was really enjoying the weather last weekend and really trusting the weather forecast. Woke up to 3 inches of water in the car. That's ok, wanted to rhino line the interior anyway. Pulled all the interior out yesterday. The subwoofer was blown when I got the car. Ordered Kicker front 4x6s, rear 5 and 1/4s and a slimline Kicker 6.5" sub. My dog had to ride home today with her dog bed sitting where the passenger seat was (she's only 10 months old, riding metal-on-metal would have confused her). It was a little harder for her to get good sniffs out the sliding windows, she took to sitting in the rear. BTW - if someone wants some factory carpet in great shape, I will ship it to them at shipping cost - I cleaned it with my extractor after it got rained in. I'm going to be installing either a 4.5" or 5.5" Rubicon Express long-arm lift kit with either 35s or 37s - not sure what I want yet. I live in Memphis - been racing hare-scrambles and doing adventure rides all over the Ozarks with motorcycles for a long time - also done a bunch of geocaching (skin is my name in geocaching.net, and adventurerider.com). Superlift (in Hot Springs, AR) is what I kind of want to build the Tj for - SO..... pics will come soon as things happen-
Quite frankly - I was very surprised at what it was capable of stock - my buddy has a built cj-7 with a v8 - i had to do some winching but - nothing broke - if anyone wants the stock wheels lemme know - tires are 20%
That's a good platform to build from and it looks to be in good shape. Other than what you're already doing, I'd lose the nerf bars and the light bar, but that's just my opinion. I had those bars on my Jeep when I bought it and they came off as soon as the lift went on. I think it looks better without em. Anyway, I'm excited to see where you're going with it, keep us posted!
