I recently bought the Supertop NX for my half-steel door 94 YJ. I was looking for a new top, didn't like the goofy regular supertop hardware, and preferred the stock hardware. I initially was in the market for the sailcloth RAT but saw this while shopping online and was intrigued by the concept of using the stock hardware with a few enhancements. This is a fairly new product and there was somewhat limited information online about the YJ version. The TJ version looked great with OEM style hardware, an additional support bar, sailcloth, upgraded tensioning system, and sunrider-like option. Naively assuming the YJ version would have similar goodies, I went ahead and ordered it. (There was no installation manual on the bestop website for the YJ version...)
First thing out of the box, I realize that it doesn't come with upper door skins. I should have noticed this on the website, but come on, that is still dumb. Why would anyone NOT want the upper doors if they are getting all the hardware and rest of the top replaced on a vehicle with half doors??? (Especially for nearly $700!!) Anyway, as advertised it comes with all new OEM-style replacement hardware. The quality is good like you would expect. My impression was that the top for the Supertop NX was supposed to be sailcloth, but this looks awfully like the same material on my old non-sailcloth top... Certainly not heavier... Further inspection reveals that the hardware is limited to an exact reproduction of OEM parts - No extra doodads for maintaining tension, no extra support bar like the TJ and JK guys get, no sunrider function. Once again the aftermarket gives YJ the shaft. I suppose I should be used to it by now.
In summary, instead of the replacement sailcloth top I started out wanting, I got a regular top minus the door skins with absolutely no enhancement whatsoever over the stock version. Disappointing... I think I will be returning this top and getting a sailcloth RAT - WITH upper door skins.
Overall, it's not a bad product and the quality is good. Bestop just really needs to quit goofing around and let the YJ owners know what is really (and really not) in the Supertop NX. Same goes for the dealers that sell the kit.
