This is an exact fit, exact spec aftermarket speaker for the Jeep Wrangler center console subwoofer that is fitted in the subwoofer amp box inside the console.
I just installed a new subwoofer speaker from quadratec last weekend. it's a perfect match and fit, in the space as well as wiring.
quadratec has an exclusive on the speaker. i don't recall the brand name on the speaker magnet, if there was one.
Quadratec part number 14133.1001 $89.99.
it's worth it. swaping the speaker out of the subwoofer unit took about 20minutes... the speaker swap took about 5 minutes. no cutting, grinding, jury rigging wiring, swearing and sweating.
The speaker is made of much better weather resistant and long lasting material. wire connections are exactly the same as the original.
and it sounds great.
don't mess with buying a new speaker unit from the dealer or another supplier. 2 reasons:
1) I paid $$$ for a whole new OEM boom box assembly, the week before Quadratec released their new speaker product. the electrical connector of the new subwoofer unit may be different. My Sahara connector has a connector with about 16 or 18 pins in it. I paid a high price for an OEM Jeep subwoofer box unit ( a week before quadratec came out with the new speaker) and the plug on it did NOT match my Jeep wiring!!!! It only had about 8 pins in the connector.
2) old OEM parts are going to be OLD and the same lousy material as the original speaker. I doubt any new old stock replacement from Jeep will last long.
Only one comment on the product. Don't push too hard fitting your box wires onto the spade connectors on the speaker. They are a bit thin and if you fit the connectors too tightly and push too hard, the connectors can bend. start with a looser fit and tighten them up so they slide on tight but not excesively.
my old speaker was SHOT. it was separated all the way around to the speaker mount. No wonder it sounded like "crud".
by the way, to take out your center console you will only need a 13mm socket and a T30 torx.. The 13mm socket works on the front cup holder bolt
Price: $90.00 Pros: Excellent Sound (for what it is and the box it's in). Easy replacement of stock POS speaker. Cons: None - if you want louder better sounding bass you'll need to have a custom box and larger sub. Recommended? Yes
Comments: I do most of my audio shopping on Crutchfield but couldn't find a sub that would fit in the stock center console. When I bought my TJ used last year the sub was blown of course. I didn't want a "high schooler" bass system but I do enjoy having a little bump and this speaker from Quadratec does the trick. It can get loud and it pretty responsive when listening to rock or whatever. Direct replacement is a piece of cake. Tricky thing is getting the wire harness unplugged when removing the center console. After that you're off to the races!
Price: $100.00 Pros: sounds awesome
no hassle swap out Cons: none Recommended? Yes
Comments: I started out by replacing the sub speaker and ended up replacing sound bar and dash speakers along with adding the super tweeters. All are made for Quadratec by Kicker. This upgrade is well worth it.....the stock speakers are junk. Make sure you do the tweeter upgrade....brings the whole thing to life. Also kept the stock radio in the jeep.
Price: $149.00 Pros: Great fit Cons: just have to run wire. Recommended? Yes
Comments: Bought this with out the amp/speaker and got those at partsexpress. saved a few $'s and got to pick a better speaker. Product fits great and is just what is needed to fill in the lowend on your dash/bar speakers. You will not thump down the road with a 8" speaker but it blends very well with the dash speakers making them sound like 6x9's and not 4x6's.
