Pros: Works Great
Cons: 2M only, no 440
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I love the FT-2800M. Its a solid radio. I did some bartering on CL and picked it up for around $100 in value. I have used the same unit as my home base station before I installed it in my Jeep. Highly recommended for HAM's that want to save a few $$.

Pros: Pretty well sealed from dust, No fan needed due to large heat sink, 65w output, simple and rugged.
Cons: Funky background audio due possibly to intermod, can be a PITA to program by hand. Since it is a single band radio, you can't get cross band repeat with this one.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I use this radio in the Jeep. Does a fine job, but I miss the 70cm band. All of the linked repeaters near here are on 70 so I intend to install an ft-8900r like I use in the pickup in the Jeep to get all four bands. The Rubicon repeater is also 70cm, so if you are thinking of getting a radio for that type of communication, you may want to consider at least a dual band vhf/uhf model. It does run hot to touch in the heat we get around here, but never had it shut down on me. A friend of mine who is kinda long winded has had his thermal shut down often until he installed a fan on top of the heat sink.

Pros: Super heavy duty Quiet (no fan needed due to huge heatsink) Easy to program Easy to see
Cons: Some intermod
Recommended? Yes

Comments: This radio is a great starter single band for an off road rig.

It stays pretty cool, even without a fan, because it has a heavy duty heat sink as the body of the radio.

With my Maldol antenna, I can easily hit repeaters 90+ miles away on 5W output power.
