Comments: Nice affordable winch. Probably use it once or twice so I did not want to buy an expensive winch. Looks good in my ARB bumber, sits down low profile and all.

SmittyBilt XRC 8 Winch
Pros: Cheap, Well Built,
Cons: slightly slow line pull
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I really dont think you cant beat the price. This winch has worked great for me and really dont see any reason why Id need something that cost hundreds more. A bargain of a product

EDIT: UPDATE: Winch solenoid died on my after about eight months of use. Luckily was under warranty and Smittybuilt was very good about shipping a replacement part to my door.

Also there is now a version two of the winch which is much better

SmittyBilt XRC 8 Winch
Pros: BEST PRICE FOR THE SIZE
Cons: NOT POPULAR BRAND BUT JUST AS GOOD!
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I WOULD RECOMEND THIS WINCH TO ALL ESPECIALLY IF $$ IS AN ISSUE, MY-SELF I'M GETTING ONE FOR MY '07 JEEP RUBICON. A NAME IS JUST THAT THE RATING IS THE SAME AS THE PERFORMANCE WHICH IS 8K VS 8K ALL THE SAME!!
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MAKING A DECISION THAT CAN SAVE YOU $$ SO YOUR ABLE TO PUT IT IN OTHER AREAS. THE FARTHER WE ARE ABLE TO STTRRREEEAAACCHHHH OUT OUR CASH THE BETTER!!!!!!!! RIGHT?!

SmittyBilt XRC 8 Winch
Price: $303.00
Pros: Price, 265:1 Gear reduction, Finish Quality, Availability
Cons: Permanent Magnet Motor, solenoid setup
Recommended? Yes

Comments: read my whole thread here:

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=442138

basically it's a cheap and effective winch but out of the box i had two problems... one of the magnets in the motor is missing a chip out of a corner and one of the crimps on the wires at the solenoid was faulty.

aside from that it's finish and assembly quality impresses me for $300.

the solenoid is similar to an ATV unit.... it's all sealed in one unit, as opposed to seperate solenoids for forward and reverse. When the solenoid unit breaks it will be quite easy to replace it with a true solenoid setup.
