SmittyBilt XRC 8 Winch
Price: $299.99
Pros: Good looking black & silver motif, great deal for $299
Cons: LAME instructions, but there's a supplement out by Smittybilt
Recommended? Yes

Comments: MAKE SURE you get the second generation of this winch with the 5.5hp series wound motor NOT the 4.1hp magnetic motor.

The first generation XRC-8 was below average with its 4.1 hp magentic motor. The newer version is MUCH better. The instructions are TERRIBLE and very vague. Wish the cable end had a metal reinforced eye instead of plain cable and hook. If your winch doesn't come with the "mounting supplement" instruction sheet, write to Smittybilt and ask for them to email you one. It makes it much easier to deal with.

Comments: It had been great and it allows you to place the control pretty much anywhere depending on what you need. I had to move it to the middle to fit the grill gaurd.

Comments: I think it started to rust the day I opened the box. Mechanically it's fine, but I want to replace the line with synthetic. Probably should have spent another $200 and got the Warn M8000

Comments: Smittybilt instructions suck horribly, but the winch comes packaged well and is a solid product. The engines a little slow, but slow and steady wins the race, its slow torque will pull you out of anything.

Comments: Although I initially had some problems with the solenoid, it seems to work pretty good. The hardware tends to rust pretty easy, but their phone support is great and will fix the problem by sending stainless hardware if you give them a ring. Overall, not the best winch out there, but for $299 it's a pretty good deal. I would have rather spent around $200-250 more and gotten the Warn M8000. If you have the extra money, I would go for the Warn instead.
