Pros: Long track record

Comments: Bought mine well used - still shows good power - went ahead and replaced solenoids for long life. May replace cable to synthetic in the future. Added a cable stop bumper.

Pros: Pulling my buds xj out every time he is stuck
Cons: Getting calls to pull my buds XJ
Recommended? Yes

Comments: Bailed my bud and myself out several times already. It came with my truck when I bought it. I recommend RAMSEY winches after the performances its provided for me in times of desperation.

Pros: Had this for so many years I don't know exactly how long. At least 20 or more. Still going strong.
Cons: None at this time.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I first purchased this winch to go on an 81 CJ5 from Leon Rosser in Bessemer, Alabama. I used it on that Jeep until the Jeep motor blew up. It set in a shed then for several years. I just recently installed it on our "new" Wrangler and the only thing I had to do to it was replace the female plug because the conductors had corroded. This is a great and dependable product. It is particularly useful for pulling Ford trucks out of skidder holes.

Comments: The Ramsey Pro 8k has done very well. We have used it countless times for recovery of Jeeps and H2's. It has held up to all the abuse and never let us down.

Comments: Know how much a tree skidder costs to get your butt out of the woods? I do.

Pros: Remote use
Cons: None

Comments: Got it used for $300 with a plate to mount on my factory bumper. Remote works great for safe useage from the cab of the Jeep. It hauls line and pull trucks out. Hasn't failed yet.

Price: $400.00
Pros: Strong, reliable winch; divorced solenoid facilitates creative mounting/better airflow. Very good value for cost.
Cons: Well, it did die, eventually. Solenoid is not sealed, housing cracked once.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: Bought 1990, used on 2 XJs, 1 Explorer, 1 Expedition, 1 Suburban, until its demise on my TJ. Bagged three elk with it; only totalled one jeep.

Fragged the main gear unit (nearest drum) while winching danger tree away from my vacation trailer. 20 years heavy use, but still disappointing; I suspect it would still be running if I hadn't shock loaded it periodically over the years. Carrier cracked, gears went cattywumpus, stripped two planetary gears and about 20% of gear housing teeth were stripped. Jammed solid; fortunately I was able to throw it in reverse and flip the tree the right way. Strong winch, but not as strong as my old Belleview 6K winch that outpulled any 8K I ever saw.

It was adequate single line on the XJs, but snatch block was frequently used on the other rigs and necessity with the Suburban--very nearly left that in the woods, but for (ahem) having two snatch blocks that day (and ever since). Slow, but implacable when triple lined.

I strongly suggest a teardown every 5 years to check gears for wear, clean and regrease. Had I done that (and refrained from jerking it a few times too many) likely would have had it another couple decades.

Many worry about the permanent magnet motor; mine was still going strong after 20 years.
