The plastic bezel surrounding the stereo/ac controls/switches is held in by clips.
I grasp the bezel at the bottom corners, you can get your hands behind the plastic and yank towards you, it may take some effort. Also I find it easier to move the shifter into N or 1/2, to give you some more room.
The empty switch space is molded and can't be easily removed unless you drilled/cut it out. You may be able to fit a switch in ther, I'm not sure tho. The actual swith plate is attached with screws, thn unplug the switches from behind.
As for wiring, just wire it to a switch directly to the battery or at an empty fuse location. Best bet would to have a friend who knows a thing or two about wiring. While hard to do, its not impossible to do something wrong and find your jeep in flames. Always disconnect the battery when doing electrical.
