Woofer Dilema Solved

Like most Jeep owners, I was never very happy with the sound system in my TJ. I really didn't want a large box with a couple of 12" woofers in it, kinda limited on space. I bought one of the Kenwood KSC-SW1 Subs, and installed it under the rear seat. Actually, it sits on the floor, under the rear seat, not even bolted down. The sound difference is incredible. This thing puts out really good sounding bass. If your looking for bone-jarring, window thumping rap bass, you might be a little disappointed, but for rock music, it's great. Plus, no loss or space, and relatively inexpensive. Sorry, if this has been posted before, I couldn't find anything with a search. I just wanted to pass on some info that may help some fellow Jeepers.

I'm highly interested... how does it wire into the factory unit?

Do you splice into the existing pod wiring? Run cable and add it to the regular speaker output on the factory head unit?

Thanks in advance. Planning on ordering one tonight.

I spliced it into the factory radio speaker wires. It has a 150w anp built in, and it sounds great! Set it on the floor under the rear seat, and latched the seat over it. No modification to the seat, or the unit was required. The rear seat holds it in place. Here's a link to the unit......

Where did you splice it in? Behind the headunit? Into the wires that head up the roll cage?

Thanks

I spliced it in behind the head unit. You could do the same with the speaker wires in the sound bar.

So there is no need to run wires through the firewall?
Where did you take your power from?
Where did you attach your negative?
Splice into the sound pods?

Still had to run the power lead thru the firewall, to the battery. You could tie it into your ignition system under the dash.
I used the parking brake mounting bolt (under the console) for the ground, it's a good ground.

Do you know if this would possibly fit under the driver's seat or maybe even in the console?

It's too big to fit under the console for sure, and it might fit under the driver's seat, here are the dimensions:
15-3/4"W x 3-11/16"H x 9-1/16"D

Can you hear it with the top down? How about Highway speeds?

Okay...I took your word for it and ordered one. I can't wait to hear what this thing sounds like.

One quick question. How do you control power to this thing?

I know that when you use RCA inputs with an aftermarket headunit, the amp is powered whenever the headunit is turned on or off.

However, I want to use my stock CD player. Does this mean that I have to use a toggle switch to turn the subwoofer on and off?

The constant (yellow) power wire goes straight to the battery. But where do I hook up the remote (blue) power wire???

Thanks for your help
Adam

Maybe a stupid question, but can you wire it to the factory subwoofer connector?
