wiring/relay/power help
ok here's what i want to do. i'm in the process of an auxiliary reverse light, i would like a switch to turn in on as i please, and be able to just have it come on when i pop it in reverse. but is it possible that i can wire it so it doesn't always coem on in reverse? i would really only like that function off road, the thing is goign to be bright, and i dont want to blind innocent bystanders in the mall parking lots.
my idea was pretty simple, seems like it would work. i plan on doing a lot of wiring this winter, front aux. light, this rear light, rock lights, on board air, sub/amp, underhood work lights. so i was thinking of making a swtich box with a master power switch for my accessories. so i can cut power completely and not have a draining battery. how the heck do i start wiring this? i think i want to do all my wiring at once and hook up lights and accessories as i get them. so i'd be making on hugs after market wiring harness.

I'd have the main power feed to your panel controlled by a relay connected to the IGN. This way nothing can be left on unless it's running. Make sure you use a relay and wire size big enough to handle the load of all your Acc, or maybe have a relay controlling a solenoid that can handle a much higher load. For your aux backup lights...simply have a relay that is tripped when you shift into reverse and have the output go to a switch then the lights. This way the lights will only come on in reverse but only if the switch is turned on.

Switch Position a: Aux-Reverse lights on when gear selector shifted in reverse Switch Position b: Aux-Reverse lights disabled completely Switch Position c: Aux-Reverse lights on manually, independent of ignition key, independent of gear in reverse ![]() (Double Pole Double Throw (DPDT) ON-OFF-ON illuminated Contura switch used above.) You can also use a Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT) ON-OFF-ON switch. Switch types below: ![]() Quote:

thats what I was thinking. or just master switch the reverse light only. so if you want to use it, a toggle or whatever on the dash or wherever must be flipped before the reverse action lights it up.

You can wire it this way but it won't perform all the functions specified by BMXxXJ .

I've purchased from RallyLights.com in PA and OTRATTW.com in CA. Many others here have mentioned other good venders too.
