Window trouble

I've got a 98 XJ, and I'm having a little difficulty with my front passenger side window - while the passenger can roll it up and down from their side, and I can roll it up from mine, I at times cannot roll it down. I thought it was the motor at first (it was in the up position, couldn't roll it down, and didn't have the bright idea to try the passenger side), but have since ruled that out. If it works perfectly fine on the passenger side, and up on my side, I'm guessing it's something in the wiring or switch? Every now and then it'll let me roll it down. My best guess is maybe a grounding issue, but I don't know the electrical very well - does each direction have a seperate ground? Any guesses before I start doing some exploratory surgery?

Wire problems in the Cherokee doors are very common. Inspect the wire harness for broken wires and check all the wire splices for failures.

If you don't find any wiring issues, failure of the drivers door master switch can happen also. You may be able to clean the switch contacts or find and touch up a cold solder joint.

Very cool, wouldn't have thought about trying to clean the contacts - to be honest, if I found that the wires themselves were all in good order, I would have gone right to trying to replace the switch. Thanks!

Use your Google-fu, somebody has done a write-up with pictures on how to clean and repair the Cherokee master switch.

Use the Google Advanced Search, and limit the results to this -> www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/ - .
