waterproofing TJ sound bar
i have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler SE, soft top, and half doors. it has been rained on twice with the top down
, and both time the speakers in the soundbar have been affected. im looking to replace the two in the soundbar for a somewhat better sound. but i dont want to put the time and money into it if the same will happen if it gets rained on again. so what im asking is, has anyone waterproofed their soundbar? i searched for the process on this forum, and most people have said they have not had problems with their soundbars in the same situation. is there any reason why mine would have been affected the way it has? any information or advise would be very much appreciated. thanks

Just make sure the speakers you buy for your Jeep that sees wet conditions do not have paper cones. Stick with speakers that have polypropylene cones and they'll be fine if they get wet.

What type of problems are you having with the speakers? I've run topless all summer for years and have yet to have any problems with stock or aftermarket speakers. Perhaps the connector for the wiring harness has come loose and you are getting water in there? My soundbar (factory) is sealed metal, so you really can't do anything to waterproof it. You may try removing yours and looking for holes.

I rubberize the inside of the soundbar and add polyfill, but that's for sound and has nothing to do with any waterproofing. Although if your bar did have a leak, this would seal it. I've had mine in hurricane type rain/hail and it's survived also. Proper speaker selection is key and also, turn it off if it's getting wet. Marine speakers are the best but any poly cone speaker is good. Only difference in marine grade speakers are the coil area is also sealed (not always the case) and it's protected against corrosion.
