Waterproofing the Stereo...need some quick advice!!

So the stock unit gave out after some T-storms we had recently. Now i'm looking at upgrading to a marine unit and building some kind of "run-off" tray for behind the dash. I've got it narrowed down to 2 that are within my budget ($200). Tell me what you think of the following (personal experience, hear say, reviews, etc.). Or if you have any recommendations of your own feel free to chime in. Keep in mind it needs to be under $200 and at LEAST the face has to be waterproof!

If you follow the links they will take you to some pics/specs of the head units i had in mind.

Thank you in advance for any advice/help you might donate on this matter.

-Jake

Try looking at -http://www.crutchfield.com - , search for marine , they have lots of choices . Their 800 phone techs are very friendly and helpful. Their user support for install instructions and trouble shooting is very good also

In my opinion If you Know it IS going to get wet, then buy the cheapest thing that will do what you want it to. There are NO Marine Electronics made that are water PROOF over time. If it gets wet often I wouldn't expect it to last over a couple years.

marine grade simply means 'corrosion resistant'. This resists salt air corrosion and maybe some damp conditions. But not direct water. Today there are some new head units with splash proof faces (when they are closed). That's about as water resistant as it gets right now.

But I've had my non-marine grade stuff (head unit, amp, etc... all of it) submerged 3 times now and it's still working. It's much about proper care and conditioning after an incident.
