Want to add 3.5mm Headphone Jack...

Anyone know how I can install a headphone jack for my radio/CD player in my 2004 TJ? I would like to use headphones at times rather than simply blasting the volume. (I'm currently running the factory radio). Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer!

pretty sure its illegal to drive with headphones in cus you cant hear emergency vehicles. But it could be done by just tapping into the speaker outputs.

Oh man, didn't even think of that! I use only the type of ear bud that sits in the ear (as opposed to the kind that fully inserts into the ear canal) so that I can still hear everything.

Well, if it doesn't happen to be illegal, it is do-able?

its definately doable. there are two wires going to an earbud just like a speaker. Problems i see you would run into is to work properly you would need to cut off the cars speakers when you are using the earbuds. Doing this would require a pair of relays for each speaker so 8 total and a toggle switch. If this sounds like something you REALLY wanna do i can tell you how to wire it up. But personnally more trouble than its worth vs. just having your ipod in your lap and your stereo off.

Although it would be nice to have, you've convinced me that it's not worth the hassle. Thanks so much for your input!

I notice on Dog The Bounty Hunter sometimes Beth and the skinny son have 1 ear bud in their ear as they drive.
