TjVideo Camera Mounting in TJ

We attended our first Camp Jeep this year and really enjoyed the trail rides.

So as we were driving out to the trail head, I decided real quickly to throw the video camera up on the dash and hit record for most of the trail ride. I had to steady it with my hand the entire time but overall, it worked great and it has been fun going back and watching the video, especially when you can't make it out for a trail ride often.

Just wondering if anyone has tried a "permanent" mounting bracket for a camera and if so, where and how did you do it? I like the idea of mounting to the roll bar, but the camera's mounting screw is on the bottom. I really dont' want to turn my TV upside down or lay upside down on the couch to watch the video. We did keep the top up for shade but everything else was left off.

I already have an inverter and next time, my battery won't die out

Thanks

just bend or buy a piece of allumium in a C shape that will fit around the camera, top to roll bar, camera inside with a screw through the bottom

I wanted to mount a wireless camera on the undercarriage to aid in tricky spots......alas, the screens are too pricey.

Unless your crawling you will have some serious vibration problems going anything over 10mph.

A few years ago I tried mounting a camera on my street bike and found that you need some sort of dampening.

You could use some small shocks mounted in a cross pattern with the camera in the middle, or some vertical and horizontal swing-arms using some screen door dampers. There are lots of ways.

You could also make a sort of steady cam if your willing to have a heavy mount with a couple of motors spinning some balanced weights acting as gyros.

You could also mount it very snug to the chassis and let the jeeps shocks try to obsorb the vibration, but it's only as good as the little 1/4-20 mounting screw on the tripod mount.

Just some ideas.

lcd screens are cheep if you know where to look. there are some 2.5" ones on ebay so you could do 4 camaras or more and just build a custom board to mount them to. that would be pretty sweet.

Nice...You my friend are nuts. There is no way I'm going around a corner like that in my Jeep. Was that before the lift?

Nice camera bracket though.
