Is the uniden pro538w cb any good?

I have seen several refurbs on ebay for a decent price. The Uniden pro 538w seems to be very similar to the 520, but also has the weather channels. I probably don't need weather channels, but I do ride w/ the top down 99% of the time. I was concerned because I never saw a new or used unit...only refurbs. Any suggestions?

Might be a good sign, can't keep new ones in stock(sell too fast), people aren't selling used ones(they like them too much) so all you get are the once broken ones back to factory spec.

Of course this is based on NO facts and was simply my optimistic way of interpreting your post.

I was actually going to purchase this CB from walcott but when I scraped enough dough together they had the PC68Elite for around the same price and it came with a mail in rebate so it came to less than the 538w IIRC. I may be wrong but it was damn close to the same price. I was looking at it because I didn't want a CB without the weather channels and it was the most economical one.

Refurbs are often a great way to buy a unit where it may have had some kind of a problem but it was fixed & repackaged. That gets rid of the "infant mortality" issue that electronic products can sometimes have, that if it's gonna fail, it'll usually fail early in its life. Once it makes it past that stage, things are usually very reliable.

Better yet, many refurb'd products had nothing wrong with them in the first place, the previous owner was often just too inept to get it working or had buyer's remorse and returned it for $$$ reasons.
