As stated a couple of times. the Uniden 510 is a nice little radio.

I have had several of them over the years.

Also, as you can see here, there is a lot of misconception about what is Legal with a CB.

The fact of the mater is this:

A legal radio can only DEADKEY 4 watts. Deadkey is the amount of power when the mic button is pressed WITHOUT talking.

Most radios will swing above 4 watts when talking and this is perfectly legal.

I like the Uniden 510/520's becuse they are consisitant. Every one that I have put on a meter has dead-keyed at 4 watts and swung to about 10 watts.

In comparison, a Cobra 29 (Same as a Uniden 76 and others) can be "tuned" to deadkkey at 4 watts and swing to about 20 watts stock. This is still a legal radio.

On a side note, I like the Wilson flex antennas for a trail rig, they are very flexy and they tune real well. A 4' wilson flex will run you less then $30. I'm not a firestick fan, but they work well for a lot of people.

I have had the best luck on a jeep with a 4' antenna and 18' of coax. If you can get your SWR down to 2:1 or below, you have a good set up.

You will hear and talk best with an antenna that has at least 1/2 it's length above the jeep.

Steve

I've been using CBs since the sixties and I'm not familiar with what you're decribing there.
Most people that have a radio with mic gain, delta tune, noise blanker etc "set them" to one particular setting and "forget them". I understand the difference between the 510 and 520. I turn down the rf gain (more like a recieve attenuator) when extremely close to another transmitter. It is probably not necessary for a trail rig and I'm not interested in the PA at all.

Hope this clears it up

Check out rightchannelradios.com I just picked up one of their Jeep setups for less than $110.00 shipped. It comes with the 510XL and everything else you'll need. I did go with a teraflex passenger side antenna mount though.

Did the install today in a bit over an hour. I ran the coax under the rear cross member and up through the light harness grommet on the right side. From there I took it down the side and then in front of the drivers seat.

Tuned the antenna and everything works just fine. I'll know for sure on tomorrows run.
