Tuffy security box and subs

The tuffy boxes... either this one ... or this one

How would you incorporate two 10" or 8" subs with this product? I was thinking maybe I could put a 10" behind each front seat secured to the floor, but then I'll have a mounting issue for the amp being as.. well, it's a huge Kicker 4 channel.

I would either be running my 10" solobarics or buy some new kicker 8" solos.

Is anyone here running one of these tuffy boxes with a system in play? I would imagine some dynomat would be useful on the tuffy box to kill the vibrations.

Options? Ideas?

Even if you are not running a system, but have a tuffy box. Think I have enough room behind the front seats to put subs?

I'm open to suggestions, going without a system is not one of them.

If you're thinking about making the box itself a speaker housing, you'd lose any ability to store anything in it. You'd have to seal the thing completely, and then it would still sound like crap cause it's relatively thin gauge metal and has a ton of resonance. Even lined with dynamat, it would still flex. to do it right you could build a box within that box; but then other than having a metal exterior, what's the point.

i think hes talking about squeezing a box in the box and the seats, with the subs firing at the back of the seats.

This is quite possibly one of the only applications (where if he means use both the box and try to find a place for the subs) that that 10" sub in the fiberglass box hooked to the 'belt rail'/wheel well would be useful.

If the idea is to add storage and have the sub system in that storage I'm thinking build a box LIKE the tuffy box out of MDF...you can order the mounting brackets for those boxes and use them with your MDF box to secure it...herculine it or whatever you need to do. Just make sure the sub section is fully sealed off from where the storage will be.

I was in the same predicament - I wanted a storage box and also 2 10's. So last week I started building my own...

Very nice work bandicoot. You better post up pics and a thread when you get that finished.

You gonna coat it in herculiner?

If you did the elevated box, you could get two low pro subs (like the new JLs) or even 3 subs and have them under the storage and downfiring. You could utilize all the space under the storage for the sub enclosure.

Plan was to build a box OR two boxes and place them on the floor behind the front seats, leaving the tuffy box for item storage.

Fire into the back of the seats, yes, didn't consider building a box from scratch for storage as well.. I'd think that would be kinda heavy?

I'd like to keep space under the STORAGE box free for placing the soft top pieces. I live in Calgary, our weather changes 4 times a day from snow to rain to sun to wind, all year round.

Still welcoming more ideas.

You're right - it's definitely not a light box (my back knows that from carrying it around!), but it's probably not too much more than the combined weight of the rear seat and my old sub box. Plus it's lighter than having 1 or 2 people in the back! I did try to save some weight where possible though - there's no bottom for the storage compartment and I used plywood over MDF for everything but the sub enclosure.

Hope to be finished within a week - I'll be sure to post some pics...
